January is a time of rest in the gardens, when the soil is cold it is best to leave it undisturbed so that any animals lower down in the warmer soil are undisturbed. The same goes for plants, often insects are hiding in the leaves until the warmer weather arrives. This is a time to plan for the future, what vegetables will we grow this year? Are there any new plants we want to grow, what seeds should we buy? It’s a time to take stock, maybe read some garden books for inspiration. We will have a School Gardening Day later in the term so keep your eyes open for the date, join in to help keep our Kilmorie Gardens great.
