Imogen’s class have been designing and making a clay sphinx as part of their Egyptian topic.
The children learnt how to draw a lion and used this to recreate the body of a sphinx. They developed their ideas in their sketchbook, designed their own sphinx and finally, created it out of clay.
First, we warmed the clay by manipulating it in our hands to make it more malleable.
Next we began making the shoulders and the body (like we did when we drew our sphinx).
After that, we added other body parts such as the head and legs.
We used tools to add details, including claws and hairs at the end of the tail.
We used our designs to help us mix and use paints to decorate our sphinx.
