Kilmorie Primary School was built in 1990 on a site which had previously been both another primary school and a secondary school. Since then, we have expanded to include a Children’s Centre, which houses our nursery class and offers a wide variety of support groups and activities for under fives.
We believe that learning should be fun, purposeful and exciting. All children are valued, challenged and actively involved in the life of the school. We share children’s targets with them as well as their parents and our aim is that we all work together to ensure that every child meets his or her potential.
We have an active School Council who meet weekly to discuss various issues. Currently they are undertaking a project on Learning to Learn, which explores different aspects and styles of learning. They also take a lead in fund raising events, often supporting Friends of Kilmorie. Recently this involved major fund raising for the “It’s our playground” project, which resulted in our wonderful adventure trail.
We believe that no one ever stops learning – adults and children. We have a lively programme of extra curricular activities which add an extra dimension to children’s learning. We have a Gold Arts Mark, a Sports Mark and a Healthy Schools Award. We also place a great deal of importance on continuing staff development and have successfully been recognised as an Investor in People since 2000.
We do out utmost to build positive and trusting relationships with all our parents and carers, who consequently become very involved in the life of the school. The Friends of Kilmorie and the Parents’ Council are both active and supportive.
