Kilmorie School Governing Body

The Kilmorie School Governing Body is made up of 11 governor places, 1 staff, 4 parent, 4 co-opted, 1 local authority governor  and the Headteacher, who is an ex-officio governor and 1 associate member.

We aim to provide outstanding support, leadership and guidance to Kilmorie school, its pupils, its teachers and staff in order to enable the school to achieve its aims and mission.

The governing body helps to plan the strategic direction of Kilmorie primary school and we have an overview of school development and the curriculum.

We meet once a term and address national and local directives that affect the school as well as asking key questions about the current school position and planning for the future.

In addition governors are involved in committees meet more regularly to address areas such as school performance, as well as other issues to do with buildings and finance. We also make regular visits to the school to see the curriculum being delivered and to look at policy in practice.

We play an active role in the school and enjoy involvement in school performances and events – there is a governor stall to be found at the summer barbecue and the Christmas Fair.

If you are interested in becoming a school governor, there are a number of documents available from the school office or you can find out more at

Meet Our Governors

Members of staff on our governing body are Liz Stone (Head Teacher), Daisy Moon (Arts Leader and Leading Practitioner in Music) and Liz Woodland (Higher Level Teaching Assistant)

Liz Woodland

I am a support staff governor and have worked in Kilmorie Primary School as a HLTA for the past 3 years working across Reception and nursery.  I love my job and every day is different, new and exciting.  We work as a team in the early years and this shines through in all aspects of the curriculum.  The children are central to everything we work towards and this couldn’t be done without team effort and enthusiasm, oh and getting into the sea on the yearly seaside trips!

I am a governor at the school because I believe wholeheartedly in the ethos of the school.  It also gives me strategic oversight of the school which in turn means I can support my colleagues, parents and children at Kilmorie.

Sally Kelly – Chair of Governors

Sally Kelly

Sally Kelly

In my day job, I am the Headteacher of the Virtual School in Royal Greenwich an exciting and rewarding role overseeing the educational outcomes for all our Looked After Children.

I have been a parent governor at Kilmorie for the last 8 years, and now in my 4th year as chair.  I also chair the finance committee and sit on other working groups and committees as appropriate.

Kilmorie is truly a unique place. I enjoy being fully involved in the life of the school; attending the many fantastic events, visiting the school to look at the progress being made and meeting with staff, parents and children.

Gerald Jones – Vice Chair of Governors

Gerald Jones

Gerald Jones has been a parent at Kilmorie since 2007, and works for Lewisham Council as head of Adult Learning Lewisham (ALL).  He has a specialist interest in family learning – in how parents and children can learn together – and in philosophy (he is the author of the philosophy A Level textbooks).

 Alan Till

Alan is the current Vice Chair of Lewisham Council. He has served as a councillor and governor for over twenty years, and was the 30th Mayor of Lewisham and Chair of Council, from 1995-96.

Alice Evans

In my day job I work at a charitable foundation supporting partners to think through how the learning from their work can lead to wider social change. We’ve a particular focus on severe and multiple disadvantage – homelessness, contact with criminal justice system, violence and abuse. I became a governor because I wanted to use the skills I’ve developed and the knowledge learnt to improve the education experience for all children at Kilmorie.

Anna Harvey

Anna Harvey

I joined the Kilmorie governing body in July 2016. In my day job I’m a civil servant working in HM Treasury, advising and supporting government ministers on a range of economic and financial policy issues. At the moment I work in the team that manages government debt. I live in Lewisham and was keen to be a school governor in order to be more involved in the great community we have here and hopefully apply some of my skills and experience in an interesting and fun new context.

Joanna Chiffe

I’m a mum of four children, two of my children are currently at Kilmorie with the elder two now at local senior schools.  Over the ten years that I have been part of the school I have seen the amazing journey that Kilmorie has made, particularly since Liz joined: a strong vision for the school, improved standard of teaching and transformation of the facilities, to name but a few.

I believe in the importance of having a good education and I want all of our children to be given the best opportunities to learn and develop – not just academically but in all aspects of school life, such as the amazing music facilities that the school offers.

I have nearly 20 years of experience in fundraising, within national and international organisations, and have key transferable skills that I can bring to the role of Governor that will benefit Kilmorie – project management, negotiation, budgeting, business planning and funding submission development.

Helen Griffies

Helen Griffies

I have been a parent at Kilmorie since 2014 and have lived very close to the school for over 15 years. I am a part-time Consultant Clinical & Forensic Psychologist in a local NHS Trust, within Forensic Mental Health Services, and I also lead on Research and Development trust-wide. I became a governor because of my interest in early intervention regarding mental health and social issues, to ensure that all children reach their educational potential as well as my interest in restorative justice principles and their application in children’s social learning. I look forward to working with the fantastic team at Kilmorie to support the school to retain its unique creative child centered ethos through the future challenges in current educational policy and funding.
