Spring Term 1 2017

FE FI FO FUN!

We we will be learning about FAIRYTALES

Fairytale 1

We will reading, acting and writing a range of Fairy tales including Jack and the Beanstalk, Swan Princess and The Three Little Pigs. We will continue to use the ‘Fab 5’ in all of our writing.

Our maths focus this half term will be telling the time (o’clock and half past), sequencing events in chronological order and describing position, direction and movement including whole, half, quarter and three quarter turns.

In Geography we will create our own fairytale landscapes using geographical language such as mountains, valleys etc. and a simple key. We will also be drawing maps of the school grounds and local area identifying key features.

In Art we will focus on the illustrations of Arthur Rackham. We will discuss our opinions and re-create these illustrations using line drawings.

Bug Club

This is the online reading scheme which allows your child access to hundreds of books at the click of a button. Your child can read them with you or when older & more confident, independently. Each book contains comprehension questions to boost reading skills. Points collected for completing the questions correctly can be used to play games. All of the books can be read to your child by the computer too.

Logins & passwords are held by your child’s teacher and have been sent home in a letter. Please encourage your child to access the website as often as possible.

If you have any problems with access at home, there is a trouble shooting guide held by Jennie on the school Reception desk.

Autumn Half Term 2016

This half term we are learning all about space.

How many planets can you name?

Do you know any famous Astronauts?

So far we have launched ourselves into space and our learning!!!!!

On our Space Day we tasted astronaut food and really liked it. We did astronaut training and learned about famous astronauts like Tim Peake who will be the first British astronaut at the International Space Centre.

This half term we will be reading Beegu by Alexis Deacon.

We will also read Man on the Moon (a day in the life of Bob) by Simon Bartram.

 

Year 1 ReadingReading

Each week your child will be given a leveled book and a picture book to take home in their book bag. Once they have read this with an adult they may bring it back and swap them, this can be everyday if you want!

Maths

We are focusing on numbers. We are learning to recognise and write numbers to 20 and beyond as numerals and words. We will also do addition by learning our number bonds to 10.

We are looking forward to the rest of this half term full of intergalactic fun and learning.
