Welcome to Year 1!
Autumn Term 2020
Once upon a time, in a faraway land, a little child was learning all about traditional tales…
What is a traditional tale?
We will find out how these stories have been handed down from generation to generation, long before they were ever written down. We will have fun listening to and telling stories. We will act them out and perform them. We will make our own maps to show where the different characters live. We’ll then explore some alternative versions of these stories and even have a go at writing one ourselves.
Are pigs and wolves really like the ones in the story books?
We’ll be finding out more about these animals and hopefully learn that wolves aren’t quite so big and bad after all!

We’ll be spending some time each week in the wild garden come rain or shine! So please send you child in with some wellies that they can keep in school all year. Your child’s/children’s Forest Skills day will be sent home in next week’s newsletter.
Fruit and Vegetables
Which fruits and vegetables are harvested in autumn? What is the difference between a fruit and a vegetable? Can you make a healthy and tasty snack using fruit and vegetables? What art can you make using fruit and veg?
These are just some of the many questions we will be exploring this half term.
Please note Year 1 PE days are as follows and the children will need a labelled PE kit (appropriate for indoor and outdoor PE) from the week beginning 14th September:

Please click on the link below to access The Bug Club website.
This is the online reading scheme which allows your child access to hundreds of books at the click of a button. Your child can read them with you or when older & more confident, independently. Each book contains comprehension questions to boost reading skills. Points collected for completing the questions correctly can be used to play games. All of the books can be read to your child by the computer too.
Logins & passwords are held by your child’s teacher and have been sent home in a letter. Please encourage your child to access the website as often as possible.
If you have any problems with access at home, there is a trouble shooting guide held by Jennie on the school Reception desk.BUG CLUB
