Welcome to Year 2

Summer Term 1 2018

Follow us, follow us Into The Woods…  this half term where we will be developing our science skills, exploring the world and going nose-to-nose with woodland animals!

First we will be looking at our local environment to see what wildlife is hiding away amongst the different types of trees. Where do they all fit in the food chain? Who is predator and who is prey? More importantly – what is a tree?

Check out these games to test your knowledge so far…

BBC – Schools Science Clips – Growing plants

If you go down to the woods today, why not…

  • see how many indigenous trees you can name and identify by looking at their leaves, bark patterns seeds or flowers.
  • talk about the sorts of animals that make woods and forests their habitats and why they live there…
  • see if you can find signs that Summer is coming, then make a collection of beautiful natural objects.

There are some great stories out there about wolves – have you read …

Each book contains comprehension questions to boost reading skills. Points collected for completing the questions correctly can be used to play games. All of the books can be read to your child by the computer too.

Logins & passwords are held by your child’s teacher and have been sent home in a letter. Please encourage your child to access the website as often as possible.

Autumn Term 2017

summer term 1

We are excited about exploring Africa as we find out all about Lila and her village in the east of Kenya.

Using the story Lila and the Secret of Rain, we will find out about and compare the weather and climate of Kenya and our local area, as well as the wildlife found on the plains and deserts of this huge continent.

Summer term 2

We will write our own versions of Lila, and, as ever, will be working really hard on our handwriting, presentation and grammar.

We will be learning about Yinka Shonibare and his amazing design skills as we create our own African repeated patterns and use these to make our own t-shirts.  In DT our project is to design and make African recycled street toys.

So sing along with Che Che Kulay and Jambo Bwana with us!
