Lunar New Year celebration

In every Reception class there are families that celebrate Lunar New Year. All the children have enjoyed learning more about the stories and customs behind this celebration.  There was some new vocabulary learnt, such as ‘Zodiac’. The dragon parade was eagerly anticipated and involved the preparation of instruments, dancing folded dragons and printed bodies as well as, in Tigers, designing Vietnamese money envelopes which meant having a try at Chinese writing.

All classes learnt to speak a greeting in Chinese and other South East or East Asian languages.

In Lions, the children enjoyed making red and gold cheese and tomato (+) pizzas that practised their learning about number 8 and in Bears, children can be seen innovating Little Red Riding Hood.
