Home School Agreement

Alongside academic achievement, as a community we strive to help children develop the qualities shown above during their time at Kilmorie. The purpose of this home school agreement is to identify and agree ways in which parents/carers, staff and children can work together to achieve this.

We expect all members of our school community to:

Show respect, care and consideration to all

Challenge unacceptable, unkind behaviour

Care for our school environment

The school will:

  • Provide a safe, stimulating environment where children feel confident to try new things, ask for help if they need it, take risks and work together to ask and find the answers to questions
  • Ensure that the curriculum (which fulfils the requirements of the National Curriculum), is engaging, purposeful and challenging. We want our curriculum to encourage creativity, curiosity and a love of learning
  • Develop in each child positive values and a caring attitude towards the school community and the environment
  • Communicate between home and school through the website, noticeboards, letters, texts, emails and general meetings
  • Welcome parents/carers whenever they visit the school and respond to their questions or concerns as quickly as possible
  • Ensure that pupils receive appropriate home learning that supports their education and links to the school curriculum
  • Provide a free book bag for every child who starts the school
  • Contact parents/carers as soon as concerns are raised about their child’s work, behaviour attendance or punctuality

The parents/carers will:

  • Ensure that their child attends school regularly, is punctual, properly equipped and ready to learn
  • Raise any problems or concerns that might affect their child’s ability to learn or behave appropriately
  • Support and encourage their child with any home school learning tasks or projects as well as listen to their child read every day (or in the case of older children encourage them to read daily and talk to them about the books they are reading)
  • Support all staff in their efforts to create a caring community which values children and their rights, raising any concerns in an appropriate manner with due respect to school policy
  • Attend parents meetings with the teacher to discuss their child’s achievements and progress
  • Inform the school immediately of any changes to parents or carer and emergency contact details
  • Support the school to ensure their child maintains good behaviour
  • Ensure that their child attends school in clothes that are appropriate for learning and weather

The child will:

  • Fully participate in all lessons and demonstrate good learning behaviour
  • Show respect, care and consideration to all
  • Care for our school environment
  • Challenge unacceptable, unkind behaviour
  • Care for our school environment and walk quietly around the school building
  • Tell a member of staff if they are worried about anything
  • Bring in their book bag every day and read at home every day
Online channels are an important way for parents/carers to communicate with, or about, our school. The school uses the following channels:

  • Our official Facebook page
  • Our official Twitter feed
  • Email/text to parents
  • Our website

Parents/carers also set up independent channels to help them stay on top of what’s happening in their child’s class. For example, class/year Facebook groups, email groups, or chats (through apps such as WhatsApp).

When communicating with the school via official communication channels, or using private/independent channels to talk about the school, I will:

  • Be respectful towards members of staff, and the school, at all times
  • Be respectful of other parents/carers and children
  • Direct any complaints or concerns through the school’s official channels, so they can be dealt with in line with the school’s complaints procedure

I will not:

  • Use private groups, the school’s Facebook page or Twitter account, or personal social media to bring the school into disrepute.
  • Upload or share photos or videos on social media of any child other than my own, unless I have the permission of the other children’s parents/carers
