Dear Parents and Carers,

A busy week. Thank you to all that attended the various parents’ evening sessions. We hope that they were informative. We have set up a feedback form for those who attended the sessions. Thank you to those who have already completed it.  For those families who were not able to complete it on the night, I have included the code below.

My assembly this week was supported by Frida, who read her competition winning speech to the school.  Frida won a children’s speech writing competition last year; the winner was invited to read the speech in the Houses of Parliament, in front of a distinguished audience, including the children’s commissioner. I also spoke to the children about OPAL play, giving a brief outline of what it is and the importance of play.

A message from Fiona - Nursery Class Teacher

On Monday we sent an email to all nursery parents, and now I include that message here.  Fiona has not returned to school since the Christmas holidays and has been greatly missed.  Please read Fiona’s words below.

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you are all well and settled back into the routines of 2025!

We wanted to let you know why I have not been in since the start of term. Earlier this month, I was diagnosed with having cancer of the tongue. Thankfully, it seems to have not spread, which is very good news! However, due to the nature of the cancer and its location, I will be having major surgery at the end of January. Subsequently, I will be off for at least the next 3 months to enable me to prep for surgery and then recover fully.

Luckily, you have the rest of the amazing Nursery team to do what they do best and I'm sure they will give me the odd update of how everyone is doing!  I will miss everyone immensely and look forward to returning when it's all a bit warmer and sunnier and the children are a bit taller and a bit cheekier!

If your children do ask any questions, and you're not sure what to say,  I have phrased it with my own (although they are a bit older), that a small part of my tongue has cancer (is not well) and that part will need to be taken out and rebuilt! This has been far more palatable for me and them! I hope this might be helpful.

So, have a wonderful few months, smile lots, laugh often and hug a tree when you can.

Warmest wishes,

Fiona

Educational Visits

On Monday Sarah C's class went to Beckenham Place Park. They took part in a Stone Age to Iron Age workshop led by Hugh Dames. The children had a great time making shelters, building fires, making tools, and they even found out how to melt metal. It was a fantastic educational visit.

Peter Pan | Mission Playhouse

I am sure that many of you will have heard that our production this year will be Peter Pan, and we will once again be performing at Catford Broadway. More information about dates and times will follow in the coming weeks.

Next week we have our auditions and, as always, we have had a huge uptake for sign-ups to audition. Year 5 and 6 will take priority this year with performing on stage. Please be aware that we endeavour to make the audition process and the selection process as fair as possible. Even though we can't have all the children on the stage, it is very much a whole school performance with our ensemble performing in the stalls.

This year we also have the opportunity for children in years 5 and 6 to be involved in helping to make the props and the set for the performance and also to support in designing merchandise and creating a programme.

We thank you for your support!
