Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you to the hundred or so families that have contributed to our School Voluntary Contribution Fund.  If you haven’t already done so, and you are able to, please contribute (through Parentpay) as it will help us with future school projects, which will aid the school curriculum.

Number Day

Today we celebrated Number Day to help raise money for the NSPCC.  Will and Penny led assemblies on numbers. A number of children wore their favourite number / digit with pride.

A great day for a great cause – please donate on Parentpay if you are able.  For people of a certain age, that’s Numberwang!

An Overview Of Our School Week

Year 1 – Masters of Puppets

On Monday Year One was visited by Charlie, the puppeteer. She introduced the children to the art of puppetry and manipulation. The children learnt that a puppet can be made out of anything. The children used their puppets to demonstrate different feelings and emotions. To conclude the workshop, the children worked in small groups to create a short performance using their puppets.

Year 2

The Year 2 classes went to Dulwich College to learn all about Ernest Shackleton. We saw some of the historical artefacts that he took with him on his actual expedition, and we got to see the James Caird boat! We had so many questions and information to discuss. It was great fun!

Year 3

Hannah and Crystal’s classes had a fantastic time at Beckenham Place Park this week. We travelled back in time to the Stone Age with Hugh. We searched the woods for objects that we could use to help us hunt and make tools and also used materials to build some shelters.  We used fire strikers to make sparks, in a similar way to how Stone Age people would have made fire with flint. Hugh then built a larger fire, and we got to watch as he smelted tin. It was a great trip!

Year 4

This week Jo's Year 4 class went to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich for a workshop about their History topic, The Vikings.  They learned lots about where the Vikings came from and the countries that they invaded.  Also that the Vikings were incredible at trade  - Jo's class even had a go at trying to trade Viking goods for other commodities they would have discovered in the countries they went to.  Jo's class really enjoyed looking around the museum and walking in the Vikings' shoes by discovering lots of new things!

Year 6

On Wednesday, Year 6 Jana’s class visited the Science Museum. First off, we explored the ‘Wonderlab’ which was definitely the highlight of our day. With so many interactive experiences, students loved working together to fuel their imagination and seeing the world around us in such exciting ways. We then explored the ‘Making the Modern World Gallery’, allowing students to discover some of the most iconic items that have shaped our society in the last 250 years. Lastly, we visited ‘The Medicine Galleries’ which contains over 3000 medical artefacts, bringing the history of medicine to life. It was a very fun (and tiring) day out!

Rhiannon (Year 1)

Rory - I would like to celebrate Rory for his independent writing. Rory has started to check and edit his work after he has finished.  Fantastic!

Aaliyah - I am so impressed with Aaliyah's resilience and focus during writing. Well done!

Kate (Year 2)

Thisbe – lots of people around the school have noticed how well you have been managing your emotions.  You are able to let us know how you are feeling and why you are feeling that way, before the emotion takes over.

Louis – we are so proud of the resilient learner you have become.  You are learning to use strategies to keep yourself calm and focussed and persevere with something you find tricky.  Being able to manage these feelings is turning you into an even more amazing learner.

Hannah (Year 3)

Fabrizio - I am so impressed with your Stone Age Boy story. You have used lots of expanded noun phrases and fronted adverbials to add extra description - well done!

Benjamin - You are able to identify when you are in the red zone and use a tool in your toolbox to get back to green. Well done!

Sarah R (Year 4)

Teddy - For the improved presentation of his work, especially is handwriting.

Sezar - For his focus in class and the resilience he is showing with his work.

Hellen - Welcome to Kilmorie!

Archie - Zones of regulation award

Jo (Year 4)

This week I celebrated Ethan, Arthur and Abigail.

Ethan - For his excellent attitude to his learning.  He has been taking a real pride in his work, particularly in his handwriting, which is getting better all the time.  He is also showing improved focus when working independently, which is resulting in great progress.

Arthur - For always showing the Kilmorie quality of resilience.  He always tries his best no matter what the topic and is becoming more confident, particularly in maths.

Abigail - For her ability to understand the Zones of Regulation and being able to come up with effective strategies for getting into the Green Zone and ready to learn.

Safer Internet Day

On Tuesday 11th February is Safer Internet Day.  The theme of the day is “Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online.”

Rebecca and Eleni were amazed by the fantastic turn out for the auditions for Peter Pan.  204 children auditioned for the performance.  Obviously, there will be some disappointment from those children who were not chosen.  We have ensured that Year 6 pupils have a role as this will be their final performance at Kilmorie.  The process is a complicated one and takes in several different factors.  Rest assured that by the time the children leave Kilmorie at the end of Year 6, they will have had the opportunity, should they wish, to tread the theatrical boards.  Everyone's contribution both on and off the stage is appreciated.

World Book Day is fast approaching!

On Thursday 6 March our school will be celebrating World Book Day to encourage children to read for fun.

The theme this year is ‘Read Your Way.’

What does World Book Day mean by ‘Read Your Way’? Their Read Your Way campaign asks everyone to let go of pressures and give children the joy of reading on their own terms.

We are dressing up for World Book Day this year! What does your child like to read? Wear a small clue or a whole costume. If you want ideas, there are great low-cost options on the World Book Day website https://www.worldbookday.com/celebrate-world-book-day/dressing-up

Let’s get ready to #ReadYourWay!
