Friday 28th March 2025

Dear parents and carers,

Spring seems to be here, and I know we are all enjoying the warmer and sunnier days.  A packed week with swimming, educational visits to Mudchute Farm, Devonshire Nature Reserve, swimming, gardening and assemblies.

We had our Kilmorie Qualities Assembly on Monday, and it was wonderful to see the children nominated and hear about how the `winners` of the cups have shown each of the Kilmorie Qualities.  Well done to all of those who were nominated, but I also know that the teachers found it very difficult to choose the nominees as there was such a wide choice!

Well done to Norah! Who was awarded silver at the Bromley Festival of Music and Speech. The comment for the award stated that Norah read with much confidence and expression.

Elis’s class led our assembly.  They had an assembly full of information, stories, songs (with actions) all about Antarctica, particularly Ponko and the South Pole.  As always, I was impressed by our children’s enthusiasm, singing and acting.

Year 3 – Educational Visit to Devonshire Road Nature Reserve

Year 3 visited Devonshire Road Nature Reserve. They met a real-life toad, tasted edible plants, whittled a stick, went on a woodland walk and looked for meadow flowers. They had a fantastic time and would like to say a big thank you to all the adults who helped, including Holly at the reserve.

As we approach the holiday, can I remind all parents that after the break the school will not be using Parentpay to pay for WRAP, educational visits, enrichment clubs etc.  All payments will be made through Arbor.

I am pleased to note that we have opened some payment items on Arbor, and it has gone smoothly.  We hope that Arbor will be a clearer system to use going forward, particularly with WRAP payments. This week we have started to use the Arbor app for parents to book slots for WRAP.                                                               If your child goes to WRAP already, you should have received a separate email.

Lego set with building instructions

Might your child have a challenging Lego set they no longer use and could donate it to help a child settle in school?

If so, I would be extremely grateful if you would consider dropping it off to the SEN office or main office.

Rhiannon (Year 1 – Treefrogs)

Sandy - For confidently sharing facts about Mae Jemison.

Aaliyah - For her engagement and effort during reading group sessions.

Seth - For his amazing learning behaviour. Seth especially worked well with his peers during History.

Connor - I am impressed with Connor's beautiful manners and kindness towards his peers.

Kate – Year 2

Estella - for the great letter she wrote to Greenpeace, she wrote at length and included lots of lovely expanded noun phrases, conjunctions and fronted adverbials.  She also made a big effort with the presentation of her work and used lots of her own ideas in her letter.  I am also celebrating Estella for giving everything a go in her learning. She is never put off by getting things wrong and is always using what she knows to search for the answer.

Otis - for being such a curious learner, Otis knows so much about the world around us and wants to know so much more all the time.  He listens so attentively to everything and soaks up all the new learning we are doing.  He also listens carefully to questions and takes time to think before answering.  Thank you Otis, for being such an engaged learner and for sharing so much with the class.

Hannah – Year 3

Joel - Thank you for being such a conscientious and helpful member of our class and always displaying the Kilmorie qualities.

Eddie - I have been so impressed with the progress you have made with your writing this year, particularly your handwriting and spelling. Well done!

Sarah R – Year 4

Ruby - For the independence, collaboration and empathy that she shown supporting children who find the work more challenging than she does.

Arthur - For his writing, he responds well to feedback and is making good progress.

Our Governors

I would like to thank Will, Sally and Peter who have recently left our Governing Body, for their service to the strategic direction of the school.  I would also like to welcome Martha, who has joined as a parent Governor.

If you recall, we had a close election earlier this year and welcomed Sarah and Luis to the Governing Body. Early in the new year, we had a vacancy for a parent Governor and, as it was so soon after our last election, we got permission from Lewisham to appoint the next person. Welcome, Martha.

We are going to have a school Gardening Day on Sunday 6th April from 10am to 12pm. Giving the garden a spring-clean after the winter.  All welcome, please come adults and children, It's always a fun time. Please bring tools if you have them.  Biscuits will be provided, so bring drinks and dress for the weather. With any luck, it will be a sunny day.  It's a great way to get involved, meet other parents and help improve the beautiful spaces where children play and learn.

We have a Whatsapp group for parents/carers with an interest in gardening. If you would like to join and help with our constantly evolving gardens, please leave your name/number with the office.

Also, we have 2 new trees on Elsinore Road, and we would love to hear from anyone who feels they can help with watering. If you can, please leave your name/number with the office.  If you can pour the odd litre bottle of water onto the trees as you walk by, that would help.

Community Allies

The Kilmorie Community Allies have put together a brief survey for ALL families at Kilmorie Primary School regarding their perceptions and practices related to race equity and anti-racism. The survey below is for us to get a better understanding of which activities to prioritise to support the school in becoming an anti-racist community. It should take 5-10 minutes to complete. All responses will be kept anonymous.

Please follow the link below to complete the survey.
