Friday 25th April 2025

Welcome back to you all.  I hope that you had a good break and enjoyed the wonderful weather.

Our assembly this week was a reminder of our school rules and expectations as well as a look into one of our Kilmorie Qualities, Resilience.  I recounted a story from my holiday and how my daughter (and I) managed to conquer our fears and go on a very high and fast roller coaster.

The weather next week looks to be getting warmer. Can I remind you that sun cream needs to be applied at home and, when the weather does get warm, to provide your child with a sun hat.  Please ensure that children are dressed suitably and look to avoid strappy tops.

Math Challenge! - 6th Grade Math

Maths Challenge sheets

As part of a focus on improving maths skills, children will be completing a timed maths challenge every Friday. This will include number facts from their current and previous year groups, with the aim to make sure they remember and are fluent with basic facts as well as learn new ones. We will be encouraging children to take these challenge sheets home with them to show you.

The challenge is called ‘Beat That’ because children will be trying to improve their own score each week; there will be no comparison in class between different children and we ask that this doesn’t happen outside school either. For many children their score will start low but we should soon see improvement.  Please celebrate with your child if they have improved their score!

Sarah R's Class went on a trip to Creekside Discovery Centre to introduce their new topic, Rivers. The children were introduced to some topic words about rivers. They then had the opportunity to go and look at the river, creating sketches and labelling the features. In groups, they looked at some artefacts that had been discovered in the Thames and used these to think about the industries that used to be near the rivers, like blacksmiths, potters and boatyards. After lunch, the children took part in a low tide river walk in Deptford Creek. They even did a science experiment to try and calculate the velocity of the river, using rubber ducks. The highlight for most of the children was the river dipping, where they found freshwater leeches, freshwater hog lice, Chinese Mitten crab, shrimp and a rare baby European Eel.
