Kilmorie Primary School Newsletter - 2nd May 2025

{item_alt_tag}

Friday 02nd May 2025

Dear all,

I hope you have had a good week. We have certainly enjoyed the warm weather. It’s been a quieter week at school, but there has still been lots of learning taking place.

As you will read in the news, next week the country will be commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe. I haven’t forgotten — we will be holding a celebration later in the term to mark both the end of the war in Europe and the war with Japan.

A quick reminder that school will be closed on 27th June for an INSET day.

Next week, in the Children’s Centre, we shall be holding a Workshop on becoming a Smartphone-Free School.  The session will start at 09.10.

Whilst I do not have a model policy, I have been given some resources from Lewisham that I would like to share.

Please complete the form using the following link - https://forms.office.com/e/BKkKPNytka

A slight development in our communication.  At the end of May, families that use our WRAP service will be sent an email which will show the account balance for the service and if necessary, a reminder to `top up` the account. These reminders will come out each month.

Additionally, I would like to canvass your opinion on our one-hour service that we offer as part of WRAP.  If you use the one hour service currently or have used it in the past or are thinking about using it, could you complete the attached survey?

Our Article of the Month for May is Article 24.  Article 24 says that every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must provide good quality healthcare, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well-being so that children can stay healthy.

The pupil parliament members of our Rights Respecting Steering Group chose this article because it links to Mental Health Awareness Week which is being celebrated this year from 12 to 18 May.

The theme this year is Community.  We will introduce Article 24 to the children during assemblies next week and the following week they will be learn more about the article in class and take part in activities for Mental Health Awareness Week.  We would like everyone to wear green on Thursday 15th May for Wear it Green Day and turn Kilmorie green for good mental health.  More details about this will be in next week's newsletter.  We now have a Rights Respecting School page on our website where you will find more information about this award and updates on the work we are doing.

I would like to thank Eva and the FOK volunteers for last Sunday’s Open Garden.

Eva said, “We had a wonderful Open Garden event last Sunday. People came with their picnics and enjoyed the cakes and lemonade.  The weather was beautiful, and it was a lovely chance to catch up with friends and enjoy our beautiful gardens.  We had photos showing the garden history and the children and parents enjoyed making dens and exploring the wildlife in our Wild Garden. Hopefully we'll be able to make this an annual event.Thank you to everyone who came to make it such a lovely time."

Early Years Fun

It’s just over a week until the Early Years Garden Party and we’re really looking forward to seeing all our Nursery, Reception and Year One families! There will be bouncy castles, games, face painting, food, drinks and our favourite – the Petting Zoo!

You can find out all about the event, and (this is really important!!) how to volunteer on the day – on our Friends of Kilmorie site.

Attention Early Years Families! Avoid the queues on the day and keep an eye out for FOK members selling tokens next week. Tokens to use at the Early Years Garden Party with be available for purchase before and after school at both entrances every day. We will also be selling them on the day so you won’t miss out.
