Friday 09th May 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week has brought a mix of cooking, preparation, and celebration. With the Bank Holiday giving many a well deserved break, it's also a moment to pause and remember VE Day, marking the end of World War II in Europe.

A time to honour the sacrifices made and appreciate the peace that followed.  As I said last week, we will look to remember the end of the Second World War later in the term.

For Year 6 pupils, the countdown to SATS next week is on! It's the final stretch, a chance to put all that hard work to good use. Whether it's tackling practice papers or simply finding ways to stay calm, every bit of effort counts.  We wish them every success next week.

And to end the week on a high, there's the Early Years Garden Party on Saturday —a perfect opportunity for little ones, families, and teachers to come together, celebrate, and make wonderful memories. Whether it’s sunshine or showers, it’s bound to be a delightful day filled with laughter and fun.  I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the organisation of this event.  They have given up their time to support the school and help raise much needed funds.

Educational Visits

On Thursday, Elis' Y2 Class had a brilliant day at the Dulwich Gallery.

The children took part in the Mark Makers workshop. This was a unique session developed by the gallery’s artist team, drawing on their experiences of using creativity to support wellbeing.

They started with a mindful walk in the Gallery and in the studio the children explored different mark making strategies to make a toolkit of creative ideas and pictures based on a painting.

' We loved using the viewfinders.'

'We also had a special playtime in the Rhododendron Woods in Dulwich Park'

Pain au Chocolat

Year 6 had a fun and filling time making pain au chocolat during their French sessions this week - the perfect end to their unit on French food.

Smartphone free Schools

We held a very well-attended meeting this morning about Smartphone free schools.  Laura, a parent at the school, gave a very informative presentation about smartphones demonstrating that while smartphones have many practical benefits, there is now plenty of evidence to say that their use among primary-aged children can be very problematic, and potentially harmful. To find out more about these issues please visit https://smartphonefreechildhood.co.uk/the-problem

Thank you to all that attended.  I will be writing to you next week, in more detail, about Kilmorie becoming a smartphone-free school at Kilmorie.

RRS

A reminder from last week. Article 24 says that every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must provide good quality healthcare, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well-being so that children can stay healthy.

We would also like everyone to wear green next week on Thursday 15th May for Wear it Green Day and turn Kilmorie green for good mental health.

There will be home learning activities linked to our Article of the Month going forward. These are optional but a good opportunity to discuss Children's Rights.
