Kilmorie Primary School Newsletter - 16th May 2025

{item_alt_tag}

Friday 16th May 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

Hope you had a great week!

We’re kicking things off with a huge thanks to the Friends of Kilmorie, Ashleigh, and the Early Years team for the wonderful Early Years Garden Party.  It was a wonderful afternoon and lots of fun – and of course raising money to improve the provision for our youngest children.  Thank you to all the volunteers – without you we could not run the event.

I was in the petting area for most of the afternoon and I spoke to the man who brought up the animals from his place near Longleat.  He commented that our school was wonderful and had well behaved children and polite parents!  He had a great afternoon and said that he didn’t have to speak to any child to be careful with the animals – unheard of!

And of course, a massive well done to all our Year 6 students who completed their SATS this week! They have shown perseverance, resilience, and determination, and we couldn’t be prouder of them.

We have had a plethora of trips this week.  Year 4 have visited Deptford Creek and Reception Classes have visited Surrey Docks Farm.

On Friday, Sarah C’s class gave an informative and energetic performance on a journey back to Ancient Egypt.  The children were fantastic, and we certainly learnt a lot.

In the Newsletter a few weeks ago, I spoke about safety in the sun.  Can we ensure that children do not wear `spaghetti` straps or wear crop tops – exposing midriffs.  Additionally, can footwear be appropriate for use in school – trainers for PE sessions for example. Footwear such as beach flip flops are not suitable.

Rubix Cubes

It is wonderful to see the return to popularity of Rubix Cubes. I am continually amazed about how quickly some pupils can solve them.  However, if your child brings in a Rubix Cubes or any other item, please be aware that there is a risk that they could get lost or broken. If items are valuable to your child, we would advise that they are not brought in.

Little Princess Trust

Sienna in Year 5 is doing something truly admirable—she’s donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real-hair wigs to children who have lost their hair due to cancer or other illnesses. Her hope is to help another child feel a little more like themselves again and bring a smile to their face.

If you’d like to support her, any donation— no matter how small, would mean a great deal and go towards this incredible cause.

Milford School - Educational Visits and School Activities

Reception

On Tuesday, Bears Class visited Surrey Docks Farm. The children had a lovely day. They learnt about the different animals that live on the farm; cows, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens and more! The children got to feed some of the animals, which they really enjoyed! It was a big day out for the children with lots of buses and trains, but they embraced it all! Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to help.

Year 4

On Thursday and Friday this week, Jo's and Vicky's Year 4 classes visited Creekside Discovery Centre in Deptford as part of their Geography topic on Rivers.  They were very lucky to have good weather as they immersed themselves in the trip - quite literally, as everyone waded through the river at low tide!  Everyone took part in river dipping and found multiple creatures, including leeches, a flounder, a Chinese mitten crab and freshwater shrimps.  They also conducted a 'duck race' to gauge the speed of the river flow, which was great fun.  It was fantastic to consolidate all our learning about rivers in such a fun way.

Ashdown Primary School - Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL)

A standing order in the Newsletter will be OPAL.  We have a few projects in mind before the Summer Holidays to `wet the whistle` before the next academic year.  We would like to start collecting the following items, if you have some or know of any suppliers who could provide them for free, please let us know.  We need:

  • Old tyres

  • Plastic crates – ideally H crates

  • Builders' trays

If you have any, please put them in the playground, near the water fountains in front of the hall.  Many thanks.
