8 Ways to Make Students Feel Welcome on First Day of School | NEA

Welcome to the New School Year!

It has been absolutely wonderful to see the children back at school, full of energy and excitement. Their smiles and enthusiasm have brought a joyful buzz to the classrooms and playgrounds, and we’re thrilled to begin another year of learning, creativity, and community together.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff, parents, and friends of Kilmorie who supported the school over the summer holidays. Your time and care have made a real difference. A special thanks goes to the parents who helped with watering the plants and supported Eva with the gardening — your efforts have kept our outdoor spaces looking beautiful and welcoming.

We are also incredibly grateful to the Friends of Kilmorie for funding the three fantastic new sheds, which are now ready to store resources for our OPAL play initiative. These sheds will help us continue to develop rich and inclusive play experiences for all our children. Thank you as well to those parents who have already started bringing in donations.

As we move into the year ahead, our work around OPAL and Rights Respecting Schools will continue to be key themes, alongside the ongoing development of our curriculum to support all our learners.

We look forward to meeting our new Reception and Nursery families next week and would like to warmly welcome them to our Kilmorie community.

A quick reminder for Year 5 and 6 families: children are not allowed to bring smartphones into school. A basic mobile phone is permitted, but it must be handed in to the class teacher every morning.

Over the next few weeks, you will receive information about your child’s timetable, particularly the days when they have PE. Please ensure that your child wears clothing suitable for physical activity. Additionally, as the weather begins to turn autumnal, children will need appropriate clothing for the season. We aim to take the children outside to play in most weather conditions, including light rain, so please ensure they have a raincoat.

We look forward to sharing more updates with you throughout the term.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Harvest Appeal – Supporting Lewisham Food Bank

As part of our commitment to community and compassion, we are supporting Lewisham Food Bank this harvest season, in collaboration with Tussell.

We would greatly appreciate any donations of non-perishable food items and essentials. A list of suggested items can be found in the photo below. All donations will go directly to families in need within our local community.

There will be a collection basket by the school office where you can drop off your items. Every contribution, big or small, makes a real difference.

Thank you, as always, for your generosity and support.

Our latest FoK newsletter is now available! It’s already been shared via WhatsApp, but we’re also including the link here so everyone can stay up to date with the latest news, events, and ways to get involved.
