Kilmorie Primary School Newsletter - 17th October 2025

{item_alt_tag}

Friday 17th October 2025

It has been wonderful welcoming parents into school for Parents’ Evening this term. These conversations are such a valuable part of the year, giving teachers insight into how children have settled and helping shape plans for the months ahead. Thank you for taking the time to attend and share your thoughts.

We’d also like to extend our gratitude to the Friends of Kilmorie and everyone who joined the FOK Annual General Meeting on Wednesday. It was inspiring to reflect on last year’s achievements and hear about the exciting plans for the future. Your continued support makes a real difference to our school community.

UHart Celebrates Black History Month - University of Hartford

October has been full of vibrant celebration as we marked Black History Month with African dancing, drumming, and art workshops. The energy and creativity have been wonderful to witness—thank you to all who helped make these events so special.

My focus for assembly on Monday was “Show Racism the Red Card.”  I shared Shaka Hislop’s upsetting story and his motivation to educate people through his charity about racism.  Thank you to those who wore red today.   You can donate to the charity through the website - Wear Red Day - Show Racism the Red Card

Our Play Assembly on Tuesday was focused on around being a good role-model, particularly aimed at our older children but a good lesson for us all, both in school at playtime and in the wider community.

As we approach the end of this half-term, we want to wish Year 6 an unforgettable time on their upcoming PGL trip. We know they’ll have a fantastic adventure (and yes, we’re a little jealous too!).  It’s hard to believe how quickly this first half of the term has flown by.

Talking to Staff

Please can I remind parents and carers of the tone and language used around children and to our staff members.  Please ensure that the language, content and tone is appropriate and respectful.  If you have an issue please use the correct channels – arrange a meeting with your child’s class teacher or an appropriate member of staff.

Class Assemblies 2020-21 – St. Matthew's Primary School, Luton

Our first class assembly of the Year was a Roman spectacular from Jo’s class. They told us about the founding of Rome, the invasion of Britain by Julius Caesar and Emporor Claudius.  It was a fun and informative assembly.  Venisti, vidisti, vicisti.

Message from Eva:

"This photo shows a bee on an area of our new hedging along the blue fence, its so lovely to be attracting new wildlife already.  It is nearly a year since we planted the hedging and we are very pleased with how the plants have grown and how the children who helped in the digging and planting have been looking after the plants."

A reminder -  "We are going to have a Gardening Session on Sunday 19th October 10am to 12pm in the school gardens.  Everyone welcome, parents, carers and children, there'll be something for everyone to do whether it is sweeping, digging or pruning.  Please bring any garden tools you may have and a drink, biscuits will be provided and homemade cakes are always very welcome.  It's a lovely chance to meet other parents, get some fresh air and exercise and help improve our children's learning environment.

What is a Rights Respecting School? - UNICEF UK

For October our Articles of the Month are Article 2 and Article 30.  Article 2 is about the Convention applying to every child without discrimination, whatever their ethnicity, gender, religion, language, abilities or any other status, whatever they think or say, whatever their family background.

Article 30 states that every child has the right to learn and use the language, customs and religion of their family, whether or not these are shared by the majority of the people in the country where they live. We are focusing on these articles this month to coincide with Black History Month and we introduced the children to them during this week’s Rights Respecting Assembly.

Discussions will continue back in class and to encourage respect for everyone and celebrate diversity and inclusion, each year group will be exploring the achievements and positive contributions made by some members of the Black community from our part of London.  If you know anyone who would be willing to come in and share their story with some of the children, please let us know.  This doesn’t have to be someone who has won medals or awards, just someone who has an inspiring journey to talk about.  Look out for ideas in your child’s learning letter to encourage further discussions at home around these articles.  Thank you.
