Kilmorie Primary School Newsletter - 7th November 2025

{item_alt_tag}

Friday 7th November 2025

I hope everyone enjoyed a restful half-term break. We’ve hit the ground running with an exciting start: Year 6 explored the wonders of science at the Science Museum, while Year 2 learnt about the Great Fire of London, as well as the London skyline, at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Next week is Anti-Bullying Week, beginning with Odd Socks Day on Monday—a fun way to celebrate individuality and kindness. On Tuesday, 11th November, we will mark Remembrance Day, taking time to honor those who gave their lives in wars.

In Monday’s assembly, I welcomed the children back with an assembly on the Gunpowder Plot and On Tuesday I read from Floella Benjamin’s Coming to England and reminded our younger pupils about the importance of staying safe through the Pantasaurus song.

On Tuesday I also showed a book created by a child Ruben, a child in Year 6, written with his Grandpa. It's been self-published. Ruben read the first few pages and then presented me with a copy.  The family is currently looking for help / advice from a literary agent.

Odd Socks Day Celebration - Quirky and Colorful Mismatched Socks ...

Odds Socks Day, Anti-Bullying Week and Articles of the Month.

Anti-Bullying Week takes places next week, from Monday the 10th to Friday 14th November and it kicks off with Odd Socks Day on Monday the 10th.  Please encourage the children to wear odd socks to school on Monday to celebrate their individuality and uniqueness.  The theme this year is Power for Good, with a focus on using our power responsibly and using our power to be kind, to include others, and to speak up if we see someone being unkind or hurt.  During my (Kate’s) Rights Respecting Assembly on Tuesday, she will be introducing our Articles of the Month to link with Anti-Bullying Week.  Article 2 (non-discrimination), Article 12 (respect for the views of the child), Article 13 (freedom of expression) and Article 19 (protection from violence, abuse and neglect).

Letters to Our Sons

A parent in Tiger’s class works at Bloomsbury Publishing and they are going to be publishing a book called  Letters to Our Sons in collaboration with actor Stephen Graham and Orla Klein (psychology lecturer), following Stephen’s award winning drama, Adolescence.

Letters to Our Sons invites fathers to write letters to their sons reflecting on what it means to be a man. These letters will form part of a landmark book, to be published by Bloomsbury in October next year.   Stephen announced the project on his social channels on 15th October - you can see the post here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DP0vaSIDfYt/?igsh=YWdmMWVqc2prdzIz - and he also spoke about it on the One Show on 16th October.

There is a link below to the portal where letters can be submitted and they are keen to get as many men as possible submitting letters, it would be lovely if any Kilmorie Dads felt comfortable doing so: letterstooursons.co.uk

Many people in Lewisham and in our community will have family and friends who are directly affected by it. It goes without saying that all those affected are in our thoughts.

The Council is facilitating the collection of items to send to Jamaica through an official channel, organised by colleagues in Adult Social Care.   Please see below the list of items we are collecting. These donations can be dropped off at Kilmorie – at the school office.  The school will then organise the delivery of these items to the council.  The deadline for donations is 9am on Wednesday 12th November.

Some sad Tea Towel news – unfortunately we’ve just learned that the company who normally creates our tea towels has gone into administration and we won’t be able to get any tea towels in time for Christmas.
