Dear Parents and Carers,

It has certainly been a busy and exciting week at Kilmorie Primary School. Children across the school have enjoyed a range of enriching experiences, including trips to the Royal Courts of Justice and the Horniman Museum, while Year 4 have reached the final week of their swimming programme. Alongside this, pupils have been practising hard and getting organised for our upcoming Sports Day, with a real sense of enthusiasm building across the school.

Congratulations to all the children who took part in the mini‑marathon last Saturday—it was wonderful to see such determination and effort from everyone involved. A big thank you as well to Denise and the team who did such a great job coordinating the event. In my assembly on Monday, I focused on the Marathon and shared some of the remarkable records broken at the London Marathon, particularly the historic runs by Sebastian Sawe and Tigst Assefa, which inspired lots of thoughtful discussion. I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend, and thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Friendly Reminders - ClipArt Best

We are proud to be a non-uniform school, however, as the warm weather has arrived we need to ensure that children wear clothes that are both appropriate for the weather and for school.

Summer-safe clothing should allow children to stay cool while still maintaining modesty and practicality for active play. Strappy, vest-style or crop tops are not suitable: shoulders and stomachs should be covered at all times to provide appropriate coverage and protection.

Shorts should also be of a reasonable length and not excessively short, allowing children to move freely without discomfort. By following these guidelines, we help create a respectful, safe, and focused environment for all children during warmer weather.

Crocs or flip flops should not be worn in school.  Children should have shoes suitable for school activities, including PE activities, going into the wild garden.

We do not allow sunglasses in school for children.  Children should have a hat, a water bottle and suncream applied, particularly on those sunnier, warmer days.

The Royal Court of Justice

Year 5 have been on an amazing trip to the Royal Courts of Justice. They got to admire the architecture of the incredible building as well as going into an actual courtroom. The children reenacted a real court case around cyber-bullying. Each child took on a role from judge to jury. The prosecution and defense, barristers and solicitors, had to cross-examine the witnesses (also played by the children). The jury discussed and delivered their verdict, and then the judge got their big moment and delivered their sentence.  The children learnt a lot about the way the English legal system works.

MIni Marathon Report by Ralph (Year 6)

Taking part in the Mini Marathon on Saturday was very exciting, especially as it’s my last term at Kilmorie. It was a hot day so I was worried I’d get very tired but there was lots of shade on the course and the crowd was so noisy and supportive that I didn’t even notice the heat once we got going.

My favourite part was running up to Buckingham Palace, where my sister Estella was cheering my name and waving a sign saying “GO RAPH!”. I sped up for the final stretch and after I crossed the finish line they gave us water bottles and very cool medals. I felt really proud of myself and everybody else, as even children from reception were running. They were amazing!

Afterwards I was very hungry so we went to Wagamama’s! The next day I watched the main London Marathon on TV and wondered if one day I could run the whole 26 miles.

It was so great helping raise over £2000 (update £2,155 (plus £491 in gift aid)! for the school after seven years here. Well done everyone who took part in the Mini Marathon and those who cheered us on or sponsored us. What a brilliant day!

Opal Play - Merritts Brook E-ACT Primary Academy

Our OPAL is continuing to develop; over the last few weeks we have opened up our dressing up station and this has proved to be very popular.  The sandpit is another popular addition – although has been closed during the windier days.  Thank you for all your contributions.

Year 2 Daffodils.

Elis' class, produced plant diaries for our daffodil project and I just had to say how impressed I was with all their work. The judge on the day commented on the standard of writing from the class, she couldn't believe they were only year 2; they taught us new things about the plants, very impressive.

Cutty Sark in Greenwich

Garden Clipart #2969524 | Clipart Library

We had a great Open Garden last weekend; it was nice for people who have been part of the gardening crew to come along and just enjoy the gardens without having to dig.  It was also lovely to introduce new parents to all our different garden areas and to share the history and stories.  We had lovely homemade lemonade and with the cake and plant sale raised around £200, we already have a new garden project planned to create a planting area for Year 1 so that they can start growing vegetables.  In Reception, the old pond has been turned into a new planter, and the children have planted seeds for growing lettuce, carrots, and peas. Currently in the main vegetable beds we have peas, broad beans, fennel and broad beans growing; spring is fast moving towards summer.
