Kilmorie Primary School Newsletter - 23rd May 2025

{item_alt_tag}

Friday 23rd May 2025

As we bring this short but action-packed term to a close, we’re reflecting on all the wonderful experiences we’ve shared as a school community. From enriching educational visits and inspiring talks from professionals to the dedication shown during SATs and the joy of our community events, it’s been a term full of learning, laughter, and achievement.

A heartfelt Thank You goes out to all the staff, parents, carers, and volunteers who have helped make this term such a success. Your support and enthusiasm are what make Kilmorie such a special place to learn and grow.

Looking Ahead to Next Term…

We’re already buzzing with excitement for what’s to come! Here are just a few of the highlights we’re looking forward to:

  • Sports Day – A fun-filled day of friendly competition and team spirit.

  • Summer Fair – A celebration for the whole community with games, food, and entertainment.

  • Peter Pan Production – Our pupils will be taking to the stage in this magical end-of-year performance.

  • Year 6 Trip to Chessington – A well-deserved adventure for our leavers!

  • More Educational Visits – With several trips planned across year groups to enrich classroom learning.

]Today we had a wonderful class assembly from Kate’s class.  It was a packed production, with African stories, songs, chants and dances, as well as poems, Children’s rights and giving us an awareness of how children and communities in Africa are affected by a lack of fresh water and the impact it brings.  Kate’s class certainly brought a tear to my eye.

Have a good rest and a good ½ term.

This week have celebrated the following children.

Rebecca (Year 2)

Imogen - Imogen is a role model to our class she is always striving to achieve her best and shows fantastic resilience. We call Imogen the green pen queen because she is always looking for ways that she can improve her work.

Kian - Kian shows wonderful curiosity in all our learning but he has taken a particular interest in Kenya. He always asks lots of questions and really engages with the learning.

Crystal (Year 3)

Lucas - For working so hard this year. You have been a model student to have in our class. I wish you the best in your new school they are lucky to have you.

Billy - For working consistently hard through the year and producing a great narrative using all the grammatical features required.

Kamarni - For working on being more independent especially in his writing, I have seen a great improvement.

Jo (Year 4)

Well done to Anastasia for her enthusiasm for learning particularly in Maths, she always tries her best and enjoys making contributions to class discussions.

Well done to Otis for showing great improvement in his focus, which is resulting is some fantastic progress, particularly in Maths.

Shona (Year 5)

Felix has interesting ideas for writing and thinks about how to keep the reader engaged.

Leo is a brilliant mathematician and enjoys being challenged in his work.

Esme uses the Zones of Regulation toolkit to help her remain in the Green Zone.

Year 6

In celebration assembly Jana and Penny both celebrated the whole of year 6 for the fantastic way they coped with SATS last week. We were very proud of the way they took it all in their stride and managed to stay positive.

Penny (Year 6)
Sophie – for working hard to complete any task she is given using the Kilmorie Quality of independence.

Zones of Regulation

Luca – for managing to stay calm when things go wrong. Although he is irritated, he uses his tool kit to stop himself slipping into the red zone and so manages to find a solution to whatever the problem is.

OPAL

Ashdown Primary School - Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL)

As I said in the previous newsletter, we have a few projects in mind before the Summer Holidays to `wet the whistle` before the next academic year.  We would like to start collecting the following items. If you have some or know of any suppliers who could provide them for free, please let us know.  We need:

  • Old tyres

  • Plastic crates – ideally H crates

  • Builders' trays

If you have any, please put them in the playground, near the water fountains in front of the hall.  Many thanks.

Additionally, could you keep for us the following items for us. When we have the correct storage, we will ask for them to be brought in.

Rights Respecting School

This month the children became familiar with Article 24 through discussions and activities also linked to Mental Health Awareness Week.  They explored what it means to be part of a community and how this supports our wellbeing.  The children wrote beautiful thank you messages to people in the Kilmorie community they are grateful for.  We have also started exploring links between our curriculum and Children’s Rights.

Our Articles of the Month for June will be Articles 10 and Articles 22.  Article 22 focusses on the rights of child refugees and Article 10 focusses on family reunification.  The RRSA Steering Group chose to focus on these articles because it is World Refugee Week from 16th to 22nd June. The theme this year is ‘Community as a Superpower’, so we will continue to explore the importance of community.

Tickets for Peter Pan.

I have been asked by a number of parents if younger siblings (in Reception and Nursery) can attend one of the shows.  Of course they can, but they will need a ticket!  On the day of the production the children will need to come to school as normal and then be collected by a parent/ carer from school and taken to the Catford Broadway.  Please inform class teachers if you will be doing this, nearer to the time.

Tickets for Peter Pan are on sale now! There is no limit on how many tickets you can purchase.

All children in years 2, 4 and 6 will be performing on Tuesday 15th July 2pm

All children in years 1, 3 and 5 will be performing on Wednesday 16th July 2pm

If your child is in lower phase or upper phase choir, they will be performing on both days.
