Friday 06th June 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope you all had a fantastic half-term break—whether you were basking in the sunshine or dodging the raindrops! It’s been a classic British mix of weather this week, but it’s lovely to see everyone back, refreshed and ready for the final stretch of the school year.

May I take this opportunity to say Eid Mubarak to all our families celebrating.

There’s lots happening over the next few weeks! Year 1 will be taking part in the Phonics Screening Check, and Year 4 will be completing their Multiplication Tables Check—we know they’ve been working hard, and we’re proud of all their efforts.

Meanwhile, excitement is building as preparations for our production of Peter Pan are in full swing, and plans for Sports Day are shaping up nicely. Behind the scenes, the Friends of Kilmorie are busy getting everything ready for what promises to be a fantastic Summer Fair.

Crumbs—we’ve only got seven weeks left of the school year! Let’s make them count!

Sporting Events

It has been a great few weeks of sporting events for Kilmorie this week. We kicked off the week with the girls’ Monday Night Football League and what two fantastic games they were! We kicked off the night with playing against Hasletine. It was a tough match but in the end Kilmorie came through, winning the game 1-0. Following on from that fantastic win, we went on to play an equally difficult Rathfern team. They gave us a really great game but this didn't deter our girls from the fantastic determination that they showed and in the end the girls won the game 3-0.

I (Jane) would like to give a special mention to all our supporters that we had on Monday. I think that's the first match where we have had that much support and encouragement from supporters and it makes such a difference. A special mention has to go out to Aaliyah, thank you for coming to support us. We would gladly have you every week shouting on the side lines for the football team

Tuesday saw the start of our two fantastic Cricket tournaments. These were held at St. Dunston's Jubilee Ground and what tournaments they were! The competitions started with the boys who won every game in their group, apart from one, and coming second in their group. We then went on to try and get a place in the semi-final which we just ended up on missing out by 30 runs. Overall Kilmorie came 5th out of the 18 teams that competed. The boys showed great sportsmanship and maturity throughout the whole tournament. It was an absolute pleasure having you represent Kilmorie. It was even noticed by other coaches how respectful and mature you were throughout the day!!

The boys were a real credit to Kilmorie and such fantastic sports people. A huge well done to them!

Up next was the girls cricket tournament and just like the boys they did very well. We came 6th in the whole competition with some excellent results and some wonderful cricket shown throughout the day, particularly the magnificent catches.

The girls were excellent role models and what impressed most was their guidance to other teams. No matter win or lose the girls played to the best of their abilities and truly are winners in our eyes. Coaches also commented on how the girls were also resilient and respectful to other teams.

All teams done exceptionally well and I am so proud of them and their achievements.

Girls’ football (This week.)

The girls football team played in the St Dunstan's cup this week.

The girls had a great night of football playing against some tough teams. The girls A and B team did so well, showing off their excellent skill, determination and fantastic goal scoring techniques (pretty much all of the B team getting on the score sheet!)

Each and every girl showed great respect and sportsmanship to the other teams no matter if it was a win, lose or draw.  It was such a great afternoon/evening of football that we did not want it to end.

The girls finished 3rd and 4th which was such a great achievement. They even came away with a Chelsea football each from the Chelsea development team.

A massive well done to all girls involved!

Milford School - Educational Visits and School Activities

Year 5 visited the Royal Courts of Justice last half term. They have been learning about Crime and Punishment so this was an opportunity to be inside the courtroom and act out a trial.

Zak - I found it quite inspiring and it made me want to be a barrister.

Erin TB - I felt like I was in history because of the wooden structure and everything was so old.

Liseli - it felt like a real trial and I enjoyed going up to the witness box.

On Wednesday, Kate’s class and Rebecca’s class (Year 2) had a wonderful trip to Dulwich Picture Gallery.  They really enjoyed their mindful activities in the gallery and loved creating different marks using masking tape and in response to music.  The children were encouraged to explore and let go, and the end results were very impressive.

Football equipment

We have a request – do you have any old children’s shin pads or goalie gloves you would like to donate to the school. We would like to have spares for the school teams in case children forget or do not have gloves and or shin pads.

Rights Respecting Schools

Our Articles of the Month for June are Articles 22 and 10.  They both address the rights of refugee children. The Rights Respecting Steering Group chose to focus on these articles this month because it is World Refugee Day on 20 June.  This is a day to honour refugees and celebrate the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country.  Refugee Week is from 16th – 22nd June and is a UK-wide festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees.

The theme this year, is Community as a Superpower and is an opportunity for us all to think about people in our communities who have been or are in this situation and how we can make sure they feel welcomed and supported.

OPAL

Next week we will expand our roll out of OPAL.  We will be allowing the children to mix at lunchtimes on a Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.

We would like to start collecting the following items. If you have some or know of any suppliers who could provide them for free, please let us know.  We need:

  • Old tyres

  • Pallets

  • Plastic crates – ideally H crates

  • Builders' trays

If you have any, please put them in the playground, near the water fountains in front of the hall.  Many thanks.
