Kilmorie Primary School Newsletter - 16th January 2026

Friday 16th January 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we’ve all noticed, the weather this week can’t seem to make up its mind—bright winter sunshine one moment and torrential rain the next— but inside Kilmorie there’s been plenty of steady warmth and energy. In assembly, we explored “Clever Never Goes”, helping children think about how to stay safe and make confident choices when faced with tricky situations outside of school, whether involving strangers or familiar faces.

Looking ahead, we’re excited for Parents’ Evening next week, a valuable opportunity to talk with your child’s class teacher about their academic and social progress this term. It’s shaping up to be a busy and special week, with several events taking place—including wishing Maria a fond “see you soon” on Friday 23rd January as she begins her maternity leave.

On Tuesday Kate led a Rights Respecting School Assembly.

“Our first Rights Respecting Assembly of 2026 focused again on Article 2, No Discrimination - no matter who you are, where you live, what your parents do, what you look like, what you believe, or if you have a disability, you have the same rights as every other child, and adults must treat you equally and protect you from unfair treatment – to link with Martin Luther King Day which is celebrated this year on Monday 19th January.  The children were reminded of who Martin Luther King was and why it is important to remember and celebrate him.  They thought about his messages, what it means to be fair and if they try to treat everyone fairly in their own lives.  We also spent time reflecting on how we can make life better for others in our community.”

We have been collecting small world items over the last term.  Over the next few weeks, we will make them available to the children over the next few weeks to enhance lunchtimes.  We are still looking for equipment (plastic buckets, plastic spades etc.) to use in the new sandpit – if you have any spares, they would be gratefully received.

Let's Celebrate - Celebration Stadium

Year 1 - Rhiannon

Lily - You are being celebrated for your fantastic writing in English this week.  Well done!

Jace - well done for your hard work and effort during reading this week!

Duncan - Well done for choosing to be a kind friend to others.

Year 2 - Rebecca

Deia: I have been so impressed with Deia's focus and effort this week I have really noticed a change in how much she wants to challenge and push herself. She is a great support to her learning partner and is making fantastic progress by showing brilliant resilience.

Connor: I have been so impressed with Connor's effort, focus and perseverance particularly in maths,  he is always looking for ways to challenge himself with reasoning problems and as a result is making excellent progress.

Year 3 - Shona

Marin has had a great start to the new year. He has shown lovely learning behaviour when working with his learning partner.

Greta really thought about the targets she wanted to achieve this year and is looking forward to challenging herself.

Year 4 - Vicky

I am celebrating Robin for being an excellent member of the class. He shows incredible focus and independence, consistently demonstrating all the Kilmorie qualities. He quietly gets on with his learning, showing great determination, and has made fantastic progress due to these skills.

I am celebrating James for being incredibly helpful and empathetic when he took on the role of my assistant. Furthermore, in his learning, he has consistently shown excellent focus, a strong work ethic, and real determination to challenge himself and do his best.

I am celebrating Romy for her positive attitude to learning and her determination to do her best. She shows great enthusiasm for our current learning, thinking about it beyond lessons, and consistently demonstrates all of the Kilmorie qualities

Year 4 – Eleni

Joshua has been working independently on his square numbers. He was able to do that as he is confident with his time tables. Joshua has been also helping other children in the class.

Amber has been amazing in all subjects. She works independently and participates more in the lesson. Amber has been a role model as she shows all Kilmorie qualities every day.

Year 5 – Sarah R

Rowan: His focus in lessons has really improved and he is trying really hard to produce his best work.

Hettie: For the resilience he showed around the Christmas performance and the curiosity that she shows in class.

Matilda: She demonstrates all of the Kilmorie Qualities. She is very attentive in class and tries really hard with her work.

School Lunch Preferences

A gentle reminder that it is now time to update your child's school lunch preference. Please ensure this is completed by Wednesday 21st January.

Hockey England Star visiting

We are very excited to welcome hockey pro Becky Manton to our school. Becky made her senior England debut during the FIH Hockey Pro League match against China in December 2024. This was after making 16 appearances for England's development squad.  On Wednesday 21st January she will be coming in to give hockey workshops to our Years 3 and 6s. Also, Becky will take an assembly to talk to our children about her Hockey and England journey, where she will go over possible challenges she faced and also to inspire our young athletes to pursue their sporting dreams.
