Kilmorie Primary School Newsletter - 06th February 2026

{item_alt_tag}

Friday 06th February 2026

Dear Kilmorie Community,

It’s been a wonderfully busy week at Kilmorie, filled with exciting learning and a number of fantastic trips that have really brought our curriculum to life. The children have thrown themselves into every experience with enthusiasm, curiosity and great teamwork.

In my assembly this week, we explored the story of Alexander Fleming and how his curiosity led to one of the most important scientific discoveries of the 20th century. Our focus was on the power of asking questions and the incredible things we can achieve when we stay curious and keep exploring.

On Tuesday, Kate led a thoughtful and reflective assembly to help us prepare for Children’s Mental Health Week, which begins next week. The children engaged brilliantly, and we look forward to continuing this important conversation in the days ahead.

I’ve also received a number of emails about school dinners recently. Later in the newsletter, you’ll find details about an opportunity to taste the school dinners yourself—a great chance to experience what the children are having everyday.

On Friday, we enjoyed Elis’s class assembly, which retold the Panko and the South Pole Story.  The children sang, danced and acted brilliantly.  I particularly liked seeing their obvious enjoyment in performing.

Children’s Mental Health Week and Article of the Month

Rainbow Graphic by NESMLY · Creative Fabrica
Next week is Children’s Mental Health Week, with the theme ‘This is my Place’.  The children were introduced to the theme during this week’s Rights Respecting Assembly.  We discussed what belonging means, where some children feel a sense of belonging, how not feeling a sense of belonging might affect your mental health and wellbeing, how we can help someone feel accepted and understood and how this has a positive impact on our mental health.

We have some fun and mindful activities lined up for the children next week, including art activities based on the theme of belonging.  These will form part of a ‘Belonging’ school display and we look forward to sharing their work with you once the displays have been completed.  There will be opportunities for the children to take part in some wellbeing activities in the art room during lunchtimes next week.

Emoji Sparkles, Emoji Glow, Emoji Twinkle, Emoji Shimmer, Emoji Glitter PNGFriday 13th February will be ‘Come as YourselfEmoji Sparkles, Emoji Glow, Emoji Twinkle, Emoji Shimmer, Emoji Glitter PNG Day’. Children can come to school dressed in something that makes them feel comfortable, confident and like they truly belong – cosy clothes, pyjamas, cultural dress, favourite colours, team, singer or something totally unique.

We are going to have an open classroom afternoon that day as well, when children will be able to visit and spend some time in other classrooms around the school.  This will hopefully help to make the school feel like a safer, more inclusive place for all children and a place that belongs to all of them.  You might find some ideas for activities to do at home based on this theme in the attached document created by The Eikon Charity.

Our Article of the Month for February is Article 24 – children have a right to information about their health and well-being – because it links to Mental Health Week. However, the theme of belonging and feeling accepted, valued, included, safe and listened to also links to most of the other articles of the convention.  Knowing their rights is all about strengthening children’s sense of belonging and voice and creating an environment for great learning.

Educational Visit

This week Isla and Sarah R's Class spent a lovely afternoon at Dulwich Picture Gallery. They went into the main gallery where they learnt about the founders and history of the gallery. The Vase with Flowers by Jan van Huysum was the main painting that they studied. They learnt about why the flowers in the painting were so special. They focused on one of the bugs in the painting and sketched this part. After this they went through to the Art Studio where they continued to use the same painting as their inspiration; they created a wax relief painting inspired by part of it and then a collage. Each child created a small sketch book with all their work for the afternoon in. From the same inspiration, they all created very different pieces.

End of Day arrangements

To improve the end of day arrangements can we ask the following of parents and carers:

  • Make sure that your child knows in advance of who is collecting them or if they are going to WRAP or a Club.

  • If there are any last-minute changes, please inform the school before 3:00 pm, where possible, particularly if someone different is collecting their child

  • Please communicate any changes through the school promptly rather than relying on messages through your child.

Thank you for your continued support.
