Kilmorie Primary School Newsletter - 20th March 2026

{item_alt_tag}

Friday 20th March 2026

This week has been full of learning, celebration, and community spirit at Kilmorie. On Monday, Simky led our assemblies and spoke beautifully about Ramadan. I certainly learned a great deal about this important period in the Islamic calendar, and I would like to take this opportunity to wish all members of our school community a joyful and peaceful Eid ul-Fitr.

On Tuesday, we came together to celebrate our Kilmorie Qualities, a highlight of the term. You can find more information about these celebrations below.

It has been a busy week. Reception enjoyed exploring Wildcat Wilderness, Year 1 visited the Horniman Museum, and Year 6 spent a fantastic day at the National Gallery. Our first Year 4 class has also begun their swimming sessions, marking an exciting milestone for them.

We have also been celebrating Neurodiversity Week across the school. All children have taken part in a session with their class teacher to learn what neurodiversity means and why it matters. Pupils in Year 3 and above have also watched a Newsround feature to help deepen their understanding.

Throughout this week and next, every class is being visited by Ashleigh, our SENCo, for a session about her role in school—how she helps children feel safe, happy, and able to access their learning. The sessions also explore different types of neurodiversity and highlight well-known figures who proudly advocate for it. We’ve loved celebrating the strengths and uniqueness of every child.

With just one more week until the two‑week break, it finally feels as though spring has arrived. I hope you are all able to enjoy the brighter weather over the weekend.

On Tuesday we had our termly Kilmorie Qualities Cup assembly.  It is always good to see the children nominated for each cup.  It is such a hard job to pick the nominees, as well as the eventual winners.  Well done to all.

Here is the list of children who won each respective cup.

Collaboration – Andrew (Y3)

Curiosity – Tetteh-Kwei (Y3)

Empathy – Vivienne (Y6)

Honesty – Arthur (Y5)

Independence – Tilly (Y4)

Innovation – Clementine (Y3)

Resilience – Aaliyah (Y2)

Respectfulness – Nimrat (Y1)

A message for our SENCo (Ashleigh)

As part of our commitment to celebrating and supporting neurodiversity, we are pleased to announce that we will now be holding SEND Coffee Mornings on the first Tuesday of each month. These sessions are a friendly and informal opportunity to share advice, meet other parents with similar experiences, learn more about how home and school can work together, ask questions, suggest ideas, and hear about training opportunities. The upcoming dates are: 14th April, 5th May, 2nd June and 7th July. Please come to the main office to sign in on these days. Sessions will run from 09:15–10:00.

               Measles

Since January, measles infections have been on the rise in London. Over the last few weeks there has been an outbreak in Kent.

Measles spreads very easily among those who are not vaccinated. It usually starts with a high temperature and cold-like symptoms, followed by a rash.

Around 1 in 5 children with measles need hospital care, and measles can sometimes lead to serious problems, such as pneumonia, meningitis, blindness, and seizures.

The MMR and MMRV vaccines protect against measles. Nearly all children who are developing measles have not been vaccinated. The MMR vaccine is recommended for anyone born on or before 31 December 2019, and the MMRV vaccine for younger children. They are safe, free, and given in two doses, usually at 12 months and 18 months of age. Getting the vaccine also helps stop measles from spreading to people with weak immune systems and babies who are too young to have it yet.

Please check whether your child has had two doses of the MMR (or MMRV) vaccine. You can look in your child’s “Red Book” (Personal Child Health Record), check on the NHS app, or ask your GP surgery.

If your child has missed one or both doses, please book a free appointment as soon as possible by contacting the School Immunisation Team (020 8487 1730 / HRCH.Immunisationcallcentre@nhs.net) or by speaking to your GP practice.

You can find more information on the NHS website: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/measles/

We spoke to the children about the meaning of Red Nose Day and showed them how some of the money raised by Comic Relief is used to help children around the world.  We also linked Red Nose Day to Article 27.   Red Nose Day activities can be linked to many of the CRC Articles but especially to Article 27 which ensures every child has the right to a standard of living that meets their physical, social, and mental needs.  Thank you for your support and donations.  We will let you know next week how much was raised.

Kilmorie Mini London Marathon update!

We were delighted that so many of you were keen to get active and get involved in the Mini Marathon - we had over 50 children enter the ballot! Sadly we only have 25 places, but we will hope to take an even bigger Kilmorie team next year!

Emails will go out on Monday to confirm the 25 children who have been allocated places through the ballot. If you’re not lucky this year then please try again next year. Don’t forget there are loads of other opportunities to get running for fun – at your local junior parkrun and the daily mile - and watch this space for more school athletics competitions hopefully coming in the summer term!

Does your child shine at home, but struggle socially around other kids? The team behind The Dog House is making a brand new BBC series about childhood friendship and are looking for kids aged 5 to 8 who are finding it hard to make friends.

If this sounds like your child – or someone you know – filming is in July/August 2026, and we would love to hear from you.
