Welcome to the Summer Term!

Welcome back to the Summer term at Kilmorie Primary School. I hope you all enjoyed a restful and happy break and are feeling refreshed and ready for the exciting weeks ahead.

The term certainly started with a bang as we launched straight into our fantastic STEM Week. Sarah opened the week with an engaging STEM‑focused assembly, which set the tone beautifully and sparked lots of curiosity (which is the week’s theme) across the school. On Wednesday, the children were treated to a range of hands‑on science workshops, and it was wonderful to see their enthusiasm, teamwork and thoughtful questioning throughout.

There is so much to look forward to this term, with many exciting learning opportunities planned, all building towards our eagerly anticipated production of Shrek the Musical – a real highlight of the year.

On Tuesday, I led a play assembly focused on football and how it should be played at playtimes, reinforcing fairness, respect and enjoyment for everyone. I also shared examples of footballers who have shown great resilience, reminding the children of the importance of perseverance both on and off the pitch.

Next week we look forward to Earth Day.

We are very much looking forward to a busy, positive and successful Summer term together.  If you are going to the FOK disco tonight, enjoy!

At Kilmorie Primary School, we use a range of carefully chosen resources to support teaching and learning, including age‑appropriate digital media. One of these is YouTube. From time to time, staff may use short, carefully selected video clips within lessons to help explain concepts, bring learning to life, or support wellbeing and movement breaks. All content is fully checked in advance by staff, used under direct supervision, and shown through the school’s filtered and secure systems. Videos are always used purposefully to enhance learning and are never a replacement for high‑quality teaching or interaction. Keeping children safe and supporting their learning remain our top priorities.

Any films that we use are below a PG rating; if we show any PG film, parents will be notified beforehand.

SEND Coffee Mornings

The SEND coffee morning was really lovely.  It was a supportive, safe space where parents could chat, share similar experiences, and swap advice with others who get it. Thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a welcoming morning. Just a reminder that your child does not need a diagnosis for you to attend.

The next meet will also be a great opportunity to work together on creating a SEND FAQ leaflet for parents, helping to clearly share information about what the school offers and what support is available more widely across Lewisham.

SEND coffee mornings take place on the first Tuesday of every month — we’d love to see you there!

Earth Week 2015

To celebrate Earth Day which is taking place on Wednesday 22nd April and to raise awareness of climate change and our Articles of the Month (Articles 6 and 24), our Eco and Teaching & Learning Committees have put together some everyday actions they would like everyone at home and at school to do each day next week.  Highlighting these actions will be a good reminder of the simple things we can do in our community to protect our world.  Each day will have a different eco theme and this poster shows what we should be focusing on each day.  Please do your best to take part at home as well so that the children understand the importance of everybody working together to make a difference.  Thank you.

Pupil Parliament will be talking to the children about this during Tuesday’s Rights Respecting Assembly and the children will be doing additional activities in class for Earth Day.

A reminder message about road safety. We have been notified that some of our students have been riding bikes on the road before and after school. Although the school road is restricted during this time, there are still cars passing through.

Our New Spring/Summer menu build on the meals children already enjoy, designed to improve choice and nutritional balance. Our Changes have been shaped by feedback from clients, parents, children, and our operational teams on the ground, but our mission remains the same; to feed children delicious and nutritious meals they will enjoy, safely.

I have also attached SS26 Parent Newsletter that can be used by school to communicate information to parents.

Key focuses have included:

  • Bringing back old favourites
  • Additional jacket potato toppings
  • Incorporating fibre; beans, pulses, and lentils into new and existing dishes
  • Credible plant based and plant forward options
  • TRIED, TESTED, THUMBS UP – Tasty, adventurous, but also familiar. All dishes are tried, tested and given thumbs up by real critics: the pupils.

Join us for some May fun at Kilmorie’s Holiday Club!

An email with booking information has been sent out this week!

We are having a gardening session at Kilmorie on Sunday 19th April from 10am to 12pm meeting in the main playground.  There will be lots of different things to do, pruning, watering, weeding etc. All welcome, it's a great chance to enjoy the gardens with your children and to help maintain their beautiful learning environment.  Come with friends or make new friends, bring a drink, and become part of the gardening crew.  If you have any tools, bring them too.

The school will be having an Open Garden event on Sunday 26th April from 12-2pm, a chance to look at our lovely plants and see what we grow, why we grow it and how we garden at the school.  Come along and play in the Wild Garden, make dens and enjoy this special place with your children.  Like last year we will be selling cakes and plants and lemonade, bring a picnic and just come with friends and family to enjoy the gardens. Please bring any donations of cakes or plants on the day. Any money we raise will be used for new plants and new projects.

Mini Marathon

Please support our mini London marathoners!

Next Saturday 25 April, a team of 25 Kilmorie kids from Reception to Year 6 will be taking part in the mini London Marathon and raising money for our school. They’re all super excited to be part of this iconic event and have been training hard for the challenge!

If you are able to, they would love it if you could support by sponsoring them. Any amount is gratefully received and your sponsorship will help spur them on in the last week of training before the event.

Thank you!
