Friday 10th July 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we move towards the final weeks of the school year, I would like to thank all of our children and staff for the positive way they have coped with the warm weather this week. Whilst temperatures have not reached the levels experienced a fortnight ago, and thankfully there have been no red weather warnings, the school has still been very warm. Despite this, our pupils have continued to work hard, learn well and enjoy their time in school.

On Monday, we held our Kilmorie Qualities Cup Assembly. It was wonderful to celebrate all the children who were nominated for demonstrating our school qualities, as well as recognising the eventual winners and, of course, the recipient of the prestigious Year 6 Cup of Cups.

Our final Class Assembly of the year was presented by Butterflies Class. The children retold some of the key stories they have studied throughout the year in a truly engaging performance. The assembly showcased excellent acting, enthusiastic singing, and plenty of confidence. I particularly enjoyed their rendition of Wild Thing by The Troggs! It was a fantastic way to bring our programme of class assemblies to a close for the year.

Kate also led an important Rights Respecting Schools Assembly focusing on Protected Characteristics. The assembly helped children develop their understanding of diversity, equality and inclusion, while reinforcing the importance of treating everyone with respect and helping to prevent discrimination.

It has been a pleasure to welcome our new Reception children for 2026/27 to their first Stay and Play sessions. These visits are an important part of helping children become familiar with our school environment, and it has been wonderful to see so many excited faces beginning their Kilmorie journey. We look forward to welcoming them all back in September as full members of our school community.

Our current Reception children enjoyed a lovely picnic at Mayow Park this week. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to spend time together outdoors, celebrate a successful year and create happy memories with their friends.

Summer Fair

I thoroughly enjoyed the Summer Fair and a big thank you to all that help organise and run the event – as always a big success!  It was fantastic to see parents and children both new and old.  The musicians, both drum fun and the School Band were exceptional.    The Summer Fair is always a highlight of the year.  Thank you.

SUMMER BREAK | CreativeMornings/Palm Beach

There is still plenty to look forward to before the end of term. Excitement is building for next week's performances of Shrek, which promise to showcase the incredible talent, enthusiasm and hard work of our pupils. We will also be preparing to say goodbye to our wonderful Classes of 2026 as they move on to the next stage of their education. While it is always a bittersweet moment, we are incredibly proud of all they have achieved and wish them every success for the future.

Alex Yee Triathlon

Some of our Year 5 children recently had the fantastic opportunity to take part in an Alex Yee Triathlon.

Alex Yee is the current World and Olympic Triathlon Champion. At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, he won a gold medal in the Men's Triathlon and a bronze medal in the Mixed Relay. He also achieved a silver medal in the Men's Triathlon and a gold medal in the Mixed Relay at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. With a total of two gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal, Alex is the most successful triathlete in Olympic history.

Having grown up in Lewisham and attended Stillness Junior School, Alex is passionate about giving local children opportunities to discover their potential through his charity, Lewisham to the World.

The children were each given their own event T-shirt before taking part in a 75m swim, 800m cycle ride (on grass) and a 300m run. They approached every challenge with enthusiasm, determination and great sporting spirit.

It was an exciting and memorable day for everyone involved. The children completed each stage of the triathlon to the best of their abilities and were rewarded at the finish line with loud cheers, a goody bag, a well-deserved bottle of water and a gold medal of their very own.

One child said, “I feel like I’ve been part of the Olympics!” — a comment that perfectly captured the excitement of the day.

As a special treat, the children even had the opportunity to meet Alex Yee himself at the end of the event. He kindly signed their medals and T-shirts, making an already unforgettable experience even more special.

A huge well done to all the children who took part. It was a truly wonderful opportunity, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone involved in making the day such a success. We look forward to taking part in more events like this in the future. 🏅🏊🚴🏃

Great British Summer Savings – Message from RT HON Bridget Phillipson MP – Secretary of State for Education.

Rising prices can make life's little treats harder to afford, especially during the school holidays when costs build up for families. This Government is determined to help, and that is why last month the Chancellor announced the Great British Summer Savings scheme.

From 25 June to 1 September 2026, the Government is temporarily cutting VAT from 20% to 5% on children's meals in restaurants, children and family tickets to cinemas, theatres, concerts and exhibitions, and admission to a wide range of attractions. Combined with free bus travel during August for children aged 5 to 15 in England, families and young people will be able to enjoy experiences that make summer special, including visits to the kinds of cultural and educational attractions that enrich children's lives outside the classroom.

As part of this campaign, we have launched an attraction finder website which allows families to type in their postcode and find participating venues near them to make the most of summer savings. To use the attraction finder, please visit https://summersavings.gov.uk.

We need you!

Over the last two years, we have had an amazing time creating fundraising events we’re all really proud of. At the end of this academic year, some of our team are stepping down and we’re looking for new recruits.

Who we need

For FoK to keep going and fundraise for extra cash for the school, we need new members urgently.
We’re looking for the following roles: (the leadership roles can be individually or as a “jobshare”)

    • Chair and Deputy Chair (Or Co-Chairs)
    • Administrator for buying event stock (drinks, food etc) and other requirements
    • General committee members

If we can’t fill these roles, we’ll need to redesign the committee which will result in a change to the number of events FoK can achieve throughout the year.

What we do

Fok has been in existence since the 1990s and is a registered charity. Last year we raised over £31,000  allowing us to fund the new OPAL play equipment, iPads, the new sandpit, school trips and much more!

By the end of this academic year we will have hosted six events including the flagship Winter Fair and Summer Party, alongside smaller events such as the parents’ and kids’ disco. All of these contribute to our school’s vibrant culture and community.

With budgets down and costs up, it’s a great opportunity to get involved in the school, understand their challenges and provide essential additional funding to enrich the school experience for all the kids.

What being on FOK is like:

It’s fun! Being part of the FOK committee is a great way to be at the heart of our school community and for those of us currently on the committee, we’ve had so much fun meeting new people, getting creative and bringing everyone together!

Time requirements vary – members devote different amounts of time, at different times – and we work hard to be supportive to one another. Some members have been with the committee for many years, and most have done a two year stint – the length of time is up to you!

How to find out more:

If you are interested, please email us at mailto:friendsofkilmorie@gmail.com, or message your Class Rep ASAP.

A huge thank you!

…to everyone to joined in the fun, volunteered, lent us gazebos, helped us set up and tidy up!

We think we have a great community and the more you get behind us, the more we can fundraise for our brilliant school – so thank you!

Next week is the last week for a few of us, so we’ll send out a roundup of the year, including how much we raised at the Summer Fair – and our end of year total (plus some info on where the money is going to be spent!)

Keep in touch on our Friends of Kilmorie blogsite and Instagram.
