Kilmorie Primary School Newsletter - 24th April 2026

{item_alt_tag}

Friday 24th April 2026

It has been a pleasure to welcome everyone back to Kilmorie Primary School this week, especially with the recent spell of good weather. I have been particularly impressed by the children’s focus on Earth Day, with special mention going out to Emily, Naomi and Bello, who demonstrated real care and responsibility by spending time in WRAP collecting small pieces of litter. We are also very much looking forward to the exciting trips organised for next week, including visits to the Royal Courts of Justice and the Horniman Museum, which promise to be both enriching and memorable experiences for the children. In my assembly this week, I spoke about the importance of the words we choose, emphasising that when we use positive words, we present ourselves in a positive way to others, a message the children embraced thoughtfully.

Sarahs Y5 Class had an amazing trip to The Royal Court Of Justice where they got an insight into the different roles within a courtroom.

This week I found out that we had received some funding to upgrade some of our toilet facilities (as well as some lighting and doors.) Hopefully, these works will be carried out over the summer holidays.

The Rights Respecting Schools Award | UNICEF UK

We have had a very eco-friendly week and have been very impressed with the children’s enthusiasm for our Earth Week awareness days.  During our Rights Respecting assembly at the beginning of the week, Pupil Parliament members reminded everyone of our eco focus for each day and provided lots of examples of the small things we can do at school and at home to make a difference.  Lots of eco pledges have been made, and we hope to keep the momentum going by continuing with these small everyday actions and important discussions about the environment and climate change.  Sharing stories about how children around the world are accessing their rights and showing the children examples of UNICEF’s work, is one of the ways we open up discussions and bring the CRC Articles to life for the children.

This month's story ties in with Earth Week and explores the story of fifteen year old Margarida from Mozambique whose education was impacted by extreme weather. It shows how UNICEF has worked with partners in Mozambique to develop cyclone resilient schools in response to the growing challenges of climate change.  Here is a link to the story.

As part of STEM Week, our Year 5 pupils explored the concepts of alignment and juxtaposition in Computing. Using Adobe Express, they experimented with combining contrasting images to create striking visual effects. The results showcase both their creativity and growing digital design skills - fantastic work all round!

The school will be having an Open Garden event on Sunday 26th April from 12-2pm, a chance to look at our lovely plants and see what we grow, why we grow it and how we garden at the school.  Come along and play in the Wild Garden, make dens and enjoy this special place with your children.  There will be photos showing how the gardens have developed over the years, and Eva will be around to talk about our different garden areas and the plants we grow.

Like last year we will be selling cakes, plants and lemonade, bring a picnic and just come with friends and family to enjoy the gardens. Please bring any donations of cakes or plants on the day; any money we raise will be used for new plants and new projects.  Everyone from the local community is invited, it's a nice chance to meet with friends and neighbours for a couple of hours in a beautiful environment.

A reminder that bookings for our May holiday club are now open!

The grown-ups owned the dance floor!

Last Friday, 17 April, we held our first Disco for the grown-ups and wow – you really took to it!

DJ Nikki Beatnik got everyone on the dancefloor from the first track and the vibe was amazing. Our amazing community raised over £800 (thank you!) and by the end of the night lots of people asked if we could hold one every month! We’re not sure we have enough energy for that… but we think this might become a staple of our social calendar!

If you missed it, here is a little video… Kilmorie Grown ups Disco 2026.

Mini Marathon

Please support our mini London marathoners!

Next Saturday 25 April, a team of 25 Kilmorie kids from Reception to Year 6 will be taking part in the mini London Marathon and raising money for our school. They’re all super excited to be part of this iconic event and have been training hard for the challenge!

If you are able to, they would love it if you could support by sponsoring them. Any amount is gratefully received and your sponsorship will help spur them on in the last week of training before the event.

Thank you!
