This week has been a powerful and thought-provoking one at Kilmorie, centred around Refugee Week and its theme of welcome, belonging and community.
In my assembly, I shared the stories and achievements of several famous refugees whose resilience, determination and contributions have helped to shape the world around us. It was an opportunity to reflect on the strengths that people bring with them, even after experiencing great hardship and displacement. This important theme was also explored in Kate's assembly on Tuesday, helping our children to deepen their understanding of the experiences of refugees and the importance of empathy, kindness and inclusion.
I thoroughly enjoyed Sarah’s Cs class assembly on the Anansi stories. I have learn not to be afraid of Spiders. The children, dance, sang, and acted well in the heat of the hall. Well done!
On Thursday, following our wonderful afternoon of play as we celebrated Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child – the right to rest, relax and play – the entire school came together for a silent walk around the school site. This was a moving opportunity for pupils and staff to reflect on the plight of refugees around the world today and to consider how fortunate we are, while thinking about those who have been forced to leave their homes in search of safety.
We ended Thursday on a high note with a fantastic performance from our school band. Their wonderful songs brought the school community together and showcased the remarkable musical talent we have at Kilmorie. We may well have some future pop and rock stars in the making!

It has also been a slightly different week for me. Yesterday, with the kind support of a couple of parents, I took part in a taster session for a potential new catering provider for next year. I would like to thank those parents for giving up their time to help with this important process. Once a decision has been made, I will, of course, keep you fully informed.
It is wonderful that the warm weather has returned but can children not bring in handheld, battery powered fans as they do cause a distraction in class. We look to ensure that the classes are well ventilated at all times.
As we approach the weekend, I wish all of our families a restful and enjoyable few days ahead. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
