Kilmorie Primary School Newsletter - 26th June 2026

Friday 26th June 2026

As we start another busy week, I would like to begin by thanking all of our families for their support during last week's spell of extreme weather. Your understanding and cooperation helped us to manage the challenges that the high temperatures presented and ensured that the children remained safe and well throughout the day.

- How I ended the very hot week!

I would also like to express my sincere thanks to our staff team, who made numerous adjustments to routines, learning environments and activities as conditions changed, often working in very difficult circumstances. Their flexibility, professionalism and commitment to the children were greatly appreciated.

In response to the recent heatwave, I have been speaking with colleagues from other schools and with our Governors about how we can make Kilmorie a cooler and more comfortable environment during periods of exceptionally hot weather. We are exploring a range of possible measures and will continue to consider how best to support our community when faced with these challenging conditions.

We are now looking forward to the Summer Fair this Saturday and hope that the good weather continues - .albeit at a more comfortable temperature! We are very grateful to everyone involved in organising what promises to be a wonderful community event, and we look forward to seeing many of you there.

In assembly last week, we focused on the theme of transition. As the end of the school year approaches, children are beginning to think about meeting their new teachers, moving into new classes and embracing the opportunities that the next stage of their learning will bring. While change can sometimes feel daunting, it is also an exciting opportunity for growth, and we encouraged the children to look ahead with confidence and curiosity.

Reading Clip Art #2979634 | Clipart Library

Today, we were delighted to welcome Alice from Lewisham Libraries, who introduced this year's Summer Reading Challenge. Reading regularly over the summer is one of the best ways for children to maintain and develop their literacy skills while enjoying new adventures through books. Further information about the challenge can be found later in this newsletter.

Year 4 Residential

Last week, I had the pleasure of taking Year 4 on a one night residential down to the Bushcraft Company, near Penshurst Place.  We had a wonderful time, despite the heat, building shelters, making traps, camouflaging ourselves, making pencils using our whittling skills and making bracelets.  The children were wonderful, although reluctant to sleep!  I decided to sleep in one of the shelters that the children had made as they were all so good.  They returned filthy and tired but had a wonderful time
