Kilmorie Primary School Newsletter - 3rd July 2026

{item_alt_tag}

Friday 3rd July 2026

As the end of the school year draws ever closer, Kilmorie Primary School remains as busy as ever, with lots of exciting learning and enrichment opportunities taking place across the school. Year 2 have continued their inspiring sessions at Dulwich Picture Gallery, while Dominic's class enjoyed a fascinating visit to the Islamic Centre, deepening their understanding of different faiths and communities.

On Wednesday, our Reception classes took part in their Sports Day. The weather conditions were perfect, and the children performed magnificently in their very first Sports Day at school, showing great enthusiasm, determination and teamwork.

Also, on Wednesday Rebecca took our Choir to Forest Hill School for a concert.  They sang beautifully as ever!

On Thursday, we were treated to a wonderful assembly by Crystal's class, who took us on a journey back in time to Ancient Egypt. We learned about pharaohs, pyramids and mummification—and even witnessed a few brains flying during the mummification process! It was a fantastic performance.

I look forward to seeing you all at tomorrow’s Summer Fair – as always, a fantastic event in our school year.  A big thank you to the Friends of Kilmorie and the volunteers who have already put so much time and effort into the preparation of the event.

On Wednesday 8th July we have our Open Evening from 15.45 to 18.00.  There are no appointments, but it is a time to look at your child’s work.  A reminder that reports will be sent out on Tuesday 7th July by email.  Please ensure that your email is correct on Arbor.  Please remember to download and save the report once you receive the link, it is time sensitive.

We will keep an eye on the weather next week.  Currently the forecast is for the temperature to rise to the high 20s.  Please ensure your child has a water bottle, sun cream applied and a sun hat.

Footwear

Please can I remind parents that on days that your child does PE they will need suitable footwear such as trainers to participate fully.  Open toed sandals and crocs are not suitable for PE activities.  The children can bring a change of shoes (and socks) to get changed into when the session starts.

Lewisham Council is working with closely with other South East London councils, the UK Health and Security Agency (UKHSA) and local NHS partners after a measles outbreak was detected at a school in a neighbouring borough.

Measles is a highly infectious disease that spreads very easily among people who are not fully vaccinated. While many people recover, measles can lead to serious complications such as brain inflammation, pneumonia and – in rare cases – long-term disability or death.

NHS England figures show that around 20 percent of children who catch measles require hospital treatment.
Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated adults are also at risk of serious illness. In a school setting, they can also risk spreading measles across multiple classes and year groups.

How to get vaccinated

The MMR vaccine (measles, mumps and rubella) is available for free to all children and adults born on or before 31st December 2019. Two doses are required to be fully protected from measles.

The MMRV vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox) is available for free to all children born on or after 1st Jan 2020. Children are offered this vaccine at 12mo and 18mo, and two doses are required to be fully protected from measles.

  • Children under school age can catch up on the MMRV vaccine at their GP

  • School-age children can catch up on the MMR(V) vaccine through NHS clinics throughout South London, with regular clinics across Lewisham: NHS catch-up clinics

  • Adults can catch up on the MMR vaccine through their GP
