Kilmorie Primary School Newsletter - 18th September 2026

Friday 18th September 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been another busy week at Kilmorie, with plenty of learning and exciting opportunities taking place across the school. As always, it has been wonderful to see the children so engaged in their lessons and making the most of everything on offer. Next week promises to be just as exciting, with our first school trips of the year taking place. We look forward to hearing all about the children's experiences and sharing some of their adventures with you.

This week's assemblies, and those taking place on Friday, have focused on World Afro Day. I spoke to the children about the history of the day and its importance in celebrating identity, inclusion and diversity. I also shared the story of a former pupil of mine who has recently achieved the fantastic milestone of publishing his first book, Pearl and the Secret Time Machine. The book explores the rich history of hairstyles, from dreadlocks and braids to the afro, and helps young readers understand and celebrate different cultures and identities. I am hoping to persuade him to visit Kilmorie in the future and speak to the children about his journey as an author.

As previously mentioned, please ensure that all items of clothing and water bottles are clearly labelled with your child's name. We are keen to reduce the number of belongings that remain unclaimed in our lost property collection and would greatly appreciate your support with this.  We are looking at different ways to store “lost” water bottles and lunch boxes.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I hope you enjoy reading this week's newsletter and wish you all a wonderful weekend.

Here is a question that you can discuss with your child.

Would you rather have a pet dinosaur that follows you everywhere or a robot that keeps your room clean?

Lost Property Genève Aéroport – Lost and Found Genève city – PCZXR

This year we have registered with a company called The Little Recyclers. They will come to school at the end of each half term and take the lost property that is clean and in good condition.  Once a date has been booked families can also bring items along to be collected at the same time.  The clothing is weighed and then money given back to school.  This year's lost property is already building up.  So please check in the shed or in the Peaceful Pod.

Mascot

André, one of our Year 5, children had an amazing opportunity to be a mascot at the Crystal Palace vs Fulham, which saw Palace beat Fulham 3-2. André was asked at the beginning of the game who his favourite player was, which he replied Dean Henderson and was lucky enough to walk out on the pitch with him!

André had a great day and was really excited to share his experience with us!

If you see André around school make sure to ask him about his amazing opportunity to be a Crystal Palace mascot!

Well done Andre.
