Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you have had a good week.

This week marked the beginning of Black History Month, an important opportunity to celebrate the achievements, contributions and influence of Black people throughout history and in contemporary society. In my assembly, I focused on a number of remarkable London trailblazers who have helped shape our city and country, including Diane Abbott, Ian Wright, Lewis Hamilton, Moira Stuart and Dr Samantha Tross. Their stories of determination, excellence and resilience provided inspiring examples for our children and prompted some thoughtful discussions about aspiration, representation and overcoming barriers.

As always, there is so much happening across the school. I am delighted to share that we will soon be working closely with an NHS Mental Health Support Team. Further information will follow, but the team will be supporting both the school and families to help promote positive mental health and wellbeing for our pupils. We know that children learn best when they feel happy, secure and supported, and we are excited about the opportunities this partnership will bring.

We are also pleased to be taking part in an exciting research project organised by the Psychology Department at Goldsmiths, University of London, in collaboration with The Paper Birds Theatre Company and the Unicorn Theatre. The project is exploring the impact of incorporating creative tasks into teaching on pupil motivation and engagement. The trial will focus on pupils in Years 2, 4 and 6. Rebecca has been involved in developing and supporting this work over the past year, and we are very much looking forward to seeing the project come to life in our classrooms.

Over the coming weeks, I will also be providing regular updates on our ongoing work around anti-racism and tackling discrimination. This remains a key priority for the school, and we are committed to ensuring that Kilmorie continues to be a place where every person feels valued, respected and able to thrive.  I have also had conversations with a parent and the Local Authority to become a School of Sanctuary.

Finally, many of our children have been developing their road safety skills through this week's Bikeability sessions. It has been wonderful to see them practising safe cycling and building confidence on the roads. However, I have received reports from several concerned parents that some Kilmorie children are not always riding safely when travelling home, including cycling too quickly around blind corners. If your child cycles to and from school, please take a moment to remind them of the importance of riding responsibly, being aware of other road users and always putting safety first.

We have been making changes in WRAP over the last few weeks to its organisation.  We have purchased new resources and developing our snack provision.  We have plans to develop our offer further throughout the next few weeks.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to run a Holiday Club at ½ term.  We are keen to provide an offer later in the year.

Lost Property Genève Aéroport – Lost and Found Genève city – PCZXR

The Little Recyclers will be collecting the lost property on Friday 23rd October.  If you have any unwanted clothing that is clean and in good condition you are welcome to leave it on Thursday 22nd October in the Peaceful Pod.

Missing Scooter

Last week a blue scooter (with a bell) went missing from the Year 1 scooter park.  Can you check scooters at home to ensure that you have taken the correct one.  If you have a scooter at home that isn`t your child's, please can you return it to school.

We have many identical scooters brough in.  Can they be named to ensure that the correct scooter is brought in.

That has been consistent all week.

James - this week I was impressed with his independence, this week managed to get on task much more independently and told me honestly when he didn't understand something.
