Friday 09th October 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

It seems that autumn has finally arrived. While the term began with what felt like tropical sunshine and unseasonably warm temperatures, it now appears to be ending with chilly mornings, thick fog and a real hint that winter is on its way. Despite the changing weather, it has been another busy and productive week at Kilmorie.

Our week began with a thoughtful and engaging assembly to mark Black History Month, led by Dominic. The assembly encouraged pupils to reflect on the contributions and achievements of people within our community. We were also delighted to welcome the first of our Black History Month workshops on Monday, when Year 6 pupils explored The Power of Protest, learning about how individuals and communities have worked to bring about positive social change.

On Tuesday, we hosted a SEND Review visit from a member of the Local Authority SEND team. The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the provision and support available for children with special educational needs and disabilities across the school. I am pleased to report that the review went extremely well. The reviewer was highly complementary about the quality of provision both within classrooms and in our SEND Hub, recognising the inclusive practice and dedication of staff in supporting all children to thrive.

Learning beyond the classroom has also continued this week. Year 3 enjoyed a visit to Blythe Hill, where they developed their understanding of urban environments through first-hand observation and fieldwork. Educational visits such as these provide valuable opportunities for children to bring their learning to life and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Questions to discuss with your child.

"Why do you think it is important to learn about people who have helped make the world fairer and more equal for others?"

Would you rather it rain sprinkles or marshmallows?

Lewisham CAMHS Mental Health Support Team (MHST) at Kilmorie Primary School

We’re pleased to introduce the Lewisham Mental Health Support Team (MHST) at Kilmorie Primary School.

Lewisham MHST offers workshops and evidence-based support for children who are experiencing mild to moderate difficulties with their emotional wellbeing that might best be managed within a school setting.

Evidence suggests that early intervention support for primary school-aged children is most helpful when delivered with parents. Our main two interventions focus on ‘Behaviours that Challenge’ and ‘Fears & Worries’ and can be offered individually or in groups, face-to-face, by phone or online.

We can help with challenges such as exam stress, behavioural difficulties, low mood, anxiety, and friendship problems. We can also help those with more severe needs to access the right support.

Alongside this, we work with the school on its wider approach to children’s mental health and wellbeing.

We look forward to meeting many of you at our upcoming coffee morning on 13th November @ 9.05am. Please come along to find out more about what we offer, ask questions, or simply say hello and meet some of the MHST team.

We are looking forward to continuing our Rights Respecting work this school year and working towards our Gold award.  We had 2 Rights Respecting assemblies in September.  Kate introduced 2 new Articles to the children for International Day of Peace: Article 38 (Protection in War) and Article 39 (Recovery and Reintegration) and spoke about responsibilities governments have to protect children affected by war and their right to receive special support to help them recover their health, dignity, self-respect and social life.

We thought about what peace means to us and what we can all do to bring greater peace into our own lives and the lives of the people around us.  Kate also shared one of Unicef’s Rights Around the World stories about how they are supporting girls’ education in Afghanistan by setting up Accelerated Learning Centres to help more children, especially girls, access their right to education. We made a link to the relevant articles and spent time reflecting on why education is an important child for every child.

Our rights focus for October will be Black History Month.
