Kilmorie Primary School Newsletter - 16th October 2026

Friday 16th October 2026

As we move closer to the half-term break, it has certainly been another busy and successful week at Kilmorie. I hope you and your family have had a good week and are looking forward to a well-earned rest next week.

It was wonderful to welcome so many parents and carers into school for Parents' Evening. These meetings are such an important opportunity to see how your child has settled and strengthen the partnership between home and school that helps every child succeed.

Black History Month has continued to be a focus across the school, with several year groups taking part in engaging workshops and activities. Year 5 enjoyed an inspiring African drumming session, Year 3 explored African culture through mask making, and Year 1 took part in a wonderful Stories from Africa workshop. Today, Nursery and Reception had a “Carnival of Stories”.  On Monday, during my assembly, I returned to one of my local heroes, Floella Benjamin. Having been born in Beckenham, I have always found her story particularly inspiring. I shared extracts from her book Coming to England, focusing on her experiences of starting school in the UK and the challenges she faced, alongside the resilience, determination and optimism that helped her succeed.  The Community Allies have kindly created a document highlighting the workshops we are holding at Kilmorie, along with some other Local Highlights.

Today, we marked Show Racism the Red Card Day. It was fantastic to see so many children dressed in red and taking part in conversations about equality, inclusion and standing up against discrimination. Days like these remind us of the important role schools play in helping children develop empathy, understanding and respect for others.

This week was the first of our class assemblies.  Jo's Class in Year 4 put on an impressive assembly all about the Romans.  They showed how much they had been learning, from the story of the founding of Rome, to the discipline of the Roman army, the invasions by Caesar and Claudius to the impact the Romans had on life in Britain.  They entertained parents with songs, comedy and lots of exciting information!

Have a great weekend.

The children had a wonderful visit to Southwark Cathedral, where they deepened their understanding of Christianity and explored the meaning behind various Christian symbols. They thoroughly enjoyed their first school trip of the year!

Reminder Image

We would like to remind you that if your child is in reception-year 2 an adult must be with them until the bell goes.
