Dear parents and Carers,

We started the week with the Kilmorie Cup awards in our whole school assembly. This is such a lovely celebration as we not only highlight the importance of each of our Kilmorie qualities and share who from every class has been nominated, but also witness how every child enjoys seeing and hearing each other be celebrated. It was heartwarming to hear the teachers share with us why they had nominated the winner. Do please take a look at the nominees and winners in the celebration section of the newsletter and on our website. Well done everyone, I know the teachers had a tough time narrowing it down, and I felt very proud seeing and hearing how deep our qualities run through our school.

Celebrations: I would like to do a special mention of our celebrations this week as not only have we celebrated our Kilmorie qualities in the whole school assembly, but also in our celebration assembly we included those who received a certificate for completing the Summer Reading Challenge. In our celebration section below, we are also celebrating our fabulous sportsmanship and skill with both our boys’ and girls’ football successes. Do please take some time to join us in commending so many achievements.

Photo of classToday Elis' class kicked off our class assemblies with a lovely assembly all about our world. They used their class text ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers and travelled around the world to spread poems, songs to outline key messages about looking after our world and the importance of being kind. I was very impressed with how the Kilmorie qualities shone through from each and every one, the number of songs they sang and their enjoyment throughout. Well done to both adults and children for a wonderful start to our class assemblies; here are some photos.

Anti-Bullying week logoNext week is Anti-Bullying Week and we’re asking everyone to wear odd socks on Monday to celebrate our individuality and what makes us all unique.  The theme is ‘Make A Noise About Bullying’ and the children will be discussing this important topic throughout the week during their PSHE lessons and will be taking part in activities to clarify what bullying is and why we need to make a noise about it.  We look forward to sharing some of our outcomes and ideas with you at the end of the week.

Reading & Writing workshopWe are holding a Reading and Writing parent workshop for years 2-6 on Tuesday 21st November at 6pm in the lower school hall. This is a great opportunity for you to learn more about how we teach in school and how you can support your child at home. The meeting will cover reading, writing, spelling and handwriting. For those who are unable to attend, the presentation will be made available on our website soon after the event. Please indicate on this form if you can attend. This helps us plan and to make sure we can accommodate everyone.

Arbor logoArbor: we will shortly be rolling out our Arbor Parent Portal / Parent App. The Arbor portal is designed to simplify bookings and communications with school. This will enable parents/guardians to register their child for a club or trip, book parents’ evening slots, and manage payments all from their phone or computer. Parents can also check in on their child’s attendance. We will shortly be sending you a welcome email with your login information, ahead of this please have a thorough read of this help document and follow the instructions to download the app now.

  • A quick introduction to Arbor for guardians and parents

  • Log into the Parent Portal and the Arbor App (includes a short video and instructions how to download the app).

To further support, we will be organising workshops for parents/carers or anyone who needs some assistance.

Safety Reminders:

  • We have received a number of emails from concerned parents about people reversing down Kilmorie from Vancouver Road (to avoid the camera at Woolstone Road end). The School Streets system is in place to keep our children safe and reduce air pollution. Please do not reverse your car, it is dangerous for our children.
  • We have received an email from the Detective Inspector in charge of Robbery who has advised that with the colder weather now upon us, an increase in students being targeted for expensive designer jackets has been seen and has requested that families are made aware.

Pre-loved event: After a very successful first Pre-Loved Clothes event, we are planning to hold another one on Tuesday 21st November 3.25pm – 4pm.  We need some helpers to set the clothes out, as well as some donations of clothes.  Please make sure the donated clothes are clean and in a good condition to pass on to others.  Could you label the bags with the donated clothes in with the age group, this helps when setting up? Thank you

Goodbyes: As you are all aware Kate will be leaving us at the end of this term to start a new career out of education. Kate has been part of the Kilmorie community for over 18 years and has worked closely with so many of our families, past & present. I am aware that a number of you would like to do something for her as a way of saying thank you. If you would like to discuss with me how we can co-ordinate things, can I ask either class reps or a spokesperson emails me at: headteacher@kilmorie.lewisham.sch.uk.

It is also with sadness that I am sharing the news that Emily will be leaving us at Christmas. Her personal venture is becoming very successful, meaning she needs to dedicate her time to it. Whilst this is wonderful news for Emily, it is sad for everyone at Kilmorie, but am sure you will join me in wishing her every success. We are looking at ways to make sure music is still delivered to full capacity and will let you details later this term.

First News screenshotFirst News and a fundraising option: First News is an incredible publication that not only helps children make sense of the world, it also is for some, the key that opens them to the world of reading. Katie, parent of Francesca in year 3 has shared that if a Kilmorie parent buys a subscription to First News using the Kilmorie link, the school will get commission on the sale. We will be sharing more information and the link shortly – please keep an eye out for it.

Wishing all our families a lovely weekend and I look forward to welcoming you back on Monday.

Kind regards

Julie
