Friday 31st January 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

Another busy week at Kilmorie. On Wednesday we welcomed local headteachers who undertook our annual peer review. They were impressed by the behaviour of the children, the calm, open and positive learning environment. They recognised the work that we have been doing this year.

My assembly on Monday was a mixed bag. My focus was a look into Chinese New Year, examining how and why the celebration takes place. However, it would have been remiss of me not to acknowledge the 80th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and Holocaust Memorial Day.

This week’s class assembly was led by Rebecca’s class. They told us all about the Great Fire of London through a very interactive performance. I always enjoy learning new things and I certainly did during the assembly, particularly about the rebuilding of London.

Children's Mental Health Week 2025

Children's Mental Health Week 2025 is taking place from 3-9 February 2025.  This year’s theme Know Yourself, Grow Yourself is about encouraging children to express their emotions and embrace self-awareness.  We will introduce the week and theme during Monday’s assembly and to support us with exploring it further, we will be using resources from the children’s mental health charity Place2Be.  Their resources are linked to the characters from the Inside Out movies and explore the importance of expressing emotions, something we already do through the Zones of Regulation.  The activities will also encourage children to discover how getting to know who they are can help them build resilience, grow and develop.

We are hoping to find time during the week to show part or all of the Inside Out movies to children in year 2 upwards in order to initiate further discussions in class about emotional wellbeing.  Year 2 and Year 3 will watch Inside Out 1 and Years 4, 5 and 6 Inside Out 2.  If you have any objections to this, please let us know before next Wednesday and we will provide an alternative activity for your child.

We are also asking that all children and staff dress in either one of the Zones of Regulation colours or in one of the colours of the Inside Out characters on Wednesday 5th February.  Whatever colour best represents them and their emotions on the day.  Finally,

Place2Be has also produced these tips for families and this art activity encourages children to embrace self-awareness and promotes personal growth.

Community Allies

Please let us know if you'll be attending via Wufoo link here

The meetings will be held in the music room and will last no more than an hour. We hope to provide child care for the evening meeting in the class next door, dependent on need.

At this meeting, the 4 groups (pillars) will give feedback on decisions made in their smaller groups. One first key action for each group will be presented and parents/ carers will be invited to join a chosen group for discussion regarding helping meet the goals of that group.

Please come along and encourage a friend who did not come last time to join you. You do not have to join a specific group, but may like to offer your support in a more ad hoc role, as and when you can, which would be most welcome.

Friday 7th February - NUMBER DAY!

On Friday 7th February, we will be holding an NSPCC Number Day.  The children will be completing a number of mathematical challenges.  We are encouraging the children to come as their favourite digit!  This could be having their favourite number somewhere on their clothes or something more creative!
