Dear Parents and Carers,

What a soggy week we have had!

Last week’s Friends of Kilmorie’s School Disco was a huge success. The music was fab, the outfits were awesome, and the atmosphere was brilliant. A whopping £1400 was raised for the school. A massive thank you to everyone who helped make it such a wonderful event for the children. Do take a look at the FOK section below, there are details of upcoming events (next one is their Quiz & Curry night), and details on the ways you can get involved in support of the school.

Due to the year 6 children having a mock SATs week there was no whole school assembly this week. But we are most excited about next week’s as we will be holding it on Thursday in celebration of World Book Day!

Nursery Stay & Play – Playdough workshop event

This week Nursery held their first Playdough Workshop as part of their weekly Stay and Play sessions.  It was a resounding success and was wonderful to see parents and children learning how to make playdough. Hopefully, no one will ever need to buy playdough again! Families were also able to take home playdough packs and recipe cards at the end of the session and raised an amazing £60 with their generous donations. A huge thank you to you all. Playing with playdough holds many benefits, which can be viewed by clicking this link.

FOK World Book Day (WBD) T-shirt Competition

Thank you to everyone who entered the competition. It has now closed but children can still submit a design, which will be uploaded to the shop for you to be able to purchase. Here is the link to the World Book Day Shop. The winners will be announced on World Book Day in our assembly. Each phase will have one winner who will receive a Tote Bag with their design on and will be exhibited at Winkworth's Estate Agents in Forest Hill.

In support of WBD, and to raise money for the library, FOK are selling badges for 50p in the community room every day, during the first morning break at 10.30am from Monday 4th of March until Friday 8th of March. We take cash or tokens.

World Book Day - Thursday 7th March 2024.

We are delighted to be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 7th March 2024 with local Catford author Allison Parkinson, who was in last week to work with Year 3. Allison will be joining us for whole school assemblies, and alongside this there will be several activities taking place during the day, such as each class having additional time with their Reading Buddies; which we know they all love!

As usual, we will be inviting children (and adults!) to dress up as a book character or come in their pyjamas. Please don’t feel obliged to buy an outfit, as we encourage children to use what they already have or, if you have time, to be creative and make costumes.

World Book Day Book Swap

This year, we are introducing a book swap. We would like each child (if possible), to bring in a book from home they are happy to swap with another child. The children will wrap them in class and teachers will arrange to swap with another class in their year group. The children will then be able to take these ‘new’ books home.  Please bring books into class from Monday 4th March.

£1 Book Tokens will be given out, which can be exchanged for any of the 13 books chosen for World Book Day or towards payment for any other book they would like to buy at local bookshops.

Happy Reading everyone!

Morning Enrichment Clubs

Please can I remind parents and carers, when you are dropping off your child to a morning enrichment club that you hand your child to the person leading the club and if they are not there you must wait with your child until they arrive. This is to ensure no child is on the school premises unaccounted for – thank you for your support.

Extended Services Manager Vacancy

Next week, we will be re-advertising our Extended Services Manager vacancy on various platforms and I am reaching out to my community. Do you know of anyone who is able to run and grow our Extended Services? There is a brief advert on our website with links to the job description and person specification, please share with anyone who you think would be a good fit.

Updates

Our staff photo board is having an upgrade! We are in the process of revamping the entrance to help our community to know who everyone is.

Next week is our Parent Governor election week. A letter is being sent today reminding you of who each candidate is (there are pictures next to their pen portrait), and outlines how you can vote. Each parent can vote, but only once. We will be holding the count at 5pm on Friday 8th March.

Keeping on top of the info@mailbox

Each member of the office staff team has a day assigned to them to look after the info@mailbox. These are their days:

  • Monday - Allesha
  • Tuesday - Mihn
  • Wednesday - Jade
  • Thursday – Tammy
  • Friday - Imani

Ramadan

Ramadan Mubarak to all our families who celebrate.

This year, Ramadan is scheduled to run between March 10th – April 9th. We appreciate that the routine of Muslim families will be different throughout this period. This can mean young children may become more tired or thirsty during this time. We kindly ask that you keep us informed if your child will be fasting, so we are able to keep an eye on them.

Let’s hope we get some dry weather this weekend!

Kind regards

Maria

Celebrations

Abi Cooper (Year 5 – Rachel's class) is part of a theatre school and was given the opportunity to participate in the BBC 500 Words finalist event (The top 50 finalists for 500 Words 2023 - BBC Teach) held at Buckingham Palace. Fifty finalists for this event were invited to an awards ceremony hosted by Camilla, the Queen.

Abi was selected to dance both at the ceremony being held today and also in a video clip that was pre-recorded two weeks ago. On Thursday 7th March on World Book Day, there will be a special edition of the One Show to cover the competition, showing the pre-record video and today's finalist event. It's definitely worth tuning in for as there were performances by a children's choir and several celebrities, including our very own Abi.

CASH FOR CANS!!

Over the next week or so you will see some black bins appearing in the playground. We will be asking parents and carers to put all empty cans into these bins so that we can sell them on to a scrapyard to raise funds for school. It would be really helpful if you could squash the cans before putting them into the bins so we can maximise space.
