Dear Parents and Carers,
Wow what a busy term this has been. You should all have had your Parent evening booking form link now for the spring term parent meetings, w/c 27th February. Do please remember to book your slot and if you are unable to make it face to face, speak with the teacher who will try and accommodate you either via a telephone call or arranging a virtual meeting.
This week’s Senior Leader’s assembly was led by our Mental Health and Wellbeing Leads, Simone & Kate M. They talked about what connecting means, the different ways we can connect with others and why it is important for our wellbeing to make these connections.
To round off this term’s class assemblies, Ayo’s Class today shared their interpretation of the book they have been studying in class, Arabian Nights. I was taken aback by the quality and maturity of their presentation and the thoughtful way they acted out the key theme of the story. This was rounded off with them sharing the street dance they have been learning this term. They clearly enjoyed sharing their learning with parents and carers. Well Done Ayo’s class, a great finale to the term. I look forward to Treefrogs, Rebecca’s class and Maria and Simone’s class assemblies next half term.
Children’s Mental Health week: A huge thank you to the parents and volunteers who offered up their time and expertise to make Children’s Mental Health Week a mindful and fun week for the children. Throughout the week it was fantastic to see the children connecting through yoga, art, craft, classical music, story-telling, mindfulness, meditation, map-reading, positive mindset sessions and various other activities that were taking place throughout the school. We really hope the children were able to take something meaningful away from these activities.
Last weekend’s Big Dig was a great success. Everyone helped prepare our outside spaces for Spring, with weeding, pruning and digging the holes for the new trees (which are due to arrive after half term). The team also worked in the Time Garden and harvested bamboo from the Reading Garden, as well as planting in the new Reception Garden. Homemade cakes were also brought in, which were a delicious surprise. Fun was had and friends were made! Eva & Olly will try to have gardening days on a monthly basis for the rest of the year. A big thanks to all who came. Read Full article here.
What a great week for year 2 who have gone on two trips this week. They visited the James Caird lifeboat in Dulwich College and found out lots more information about Shackleton and his death-defying expedition to Antarctica. Afterwards, the children had a chance to connect with each other through play in the glorious sunshine in Dulwich Park for Children’s Mental Health Week. On Wednesday, they went to the Royal Festival Hall, for an interactive music concert. They explored music that is sad, happy, angry, calm, and more, with the amazing London Philharmonic Orchestra. The children had a lot of fun helping to untangle the Colour Monster’s messy emotions through the wonder of orchestral music. These are some of the things the children have said about their trips:
"I enjoyed trying on the felt balaclava like the one Shackleton would have worn." (Ruben)
"I liked looking at the James Caird because I found it interesting." (Ernesto)
"I liked listening to the calm and happy music that the great orchestra played."
"My favourite part was singing with the amazing orchestra."
"I liked finding out how the carpenter made the James Caird lifeboat bigger so they could get to Elephant Island."
A sad goodbye: It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Jennie in the office. She has been with the Kilmorie office team for 8 years and in that time helped many of us. She is also a wealth of knowledge that we are going to miss. But, I am sure she is going to be a fantastic addition to her new school, which is closer to home and a new challenge as it is with a secondary school. I am sure you will join me in wishing her all the best.
Next half term is a busy one! We have Maths parent workshops for each phase, Science week which ends with our World Book Day celebration and a book sale, all in w/c 6th March. The Friends of Kilmorie PTA disco for Years 3 & 4 (4.30-6pm) and Years 5 & 6 (6.30-8pm) on 17th March (which is also Red Nose Day), and are planning an International Week for the last week of term. I will be writing with more details of each of these events nearer the time, but do please have a look at the website calendar as all of the above has been uploaded. You can sync to your mobile device calendars too, making sure you don’t miss out.
Please can I remind everyone that Kilmorie Road and Elsinore Road are school roads and should not be driven down at drop off / pick up time.
Thank you for a great half term. I hope you all have a lovely break and look forward to welcoming you all Monday 20th February.
Kind regards
Julie
