Kilmorie Primary School Newsletter - 27th March 2026

Friday 27th March 2026

Dear Kilmorie Families,

As we come to the end of a full and lively term, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your continued support. Your involvement and encouragement make an enormous difference to school life, and we are truly grateful.

This week has been especially busy and exciting for our pupils. Year 6 enjoyed an inspiring trip to the National Gallery, Year 5 visited the Croydon Gurudwara as part of their RE learning, and Year 2 had a wonderful experience at Dulwich College as they continued their learning on Shackleton and the Antarctic. Each visit offered rich opportunities for learning beyond the classroom, and the children represented Kilmorie brilliantly throughout.   My assembly on Monday concluded our Neurodiversity week and I celebrated the strengths of how our minds work in different ways.

On Wednesday we also welcomed colleagues from local schools for our Peer Review. They carried out learning walks, looked at children’s books and spoke to pupils about their learning. It was a pleasure to show them around the school. They were incredibly impressed by the children’s engagement, their positive attitude to learning and the high quality of work they produce. The feedback from the review will support us as we continue to strengthen our teaching and learning, particularly in writing.

Friday Weekday Doodle Stitch Text Lettering 3272335 Vector Art at Vecteezy

On Friday, we were joined by Mayo Agard-Olubo who gave an inspiring, creative session full of dinosaurs and superheroes, he shared his debut picture-book Kid Rex to the Rescue.

As we head into the Easter break, I wish all our families a very happy holiday and a restful, well‑deserved pause. Thank you once again for everything you do to support our school community.

Have a wonderful Easter.

Gold Rights Respecting Schools in the UK - UNICEF UK

Newsletter

Thanks for your Red Nose Day donations, we collected £200 and it is on its way to Comic Relief.  £100 could provide a week’s worth of baby supplies for 5 families in the UK struggling to meet their basic needs, so every little helps.
At this week’s Rights Respecting Assembly, the children were introduced to April’s Articles of the Month – Article 6 and Article 24.  They are linked to Earth Day which is taking place on April 22nd.  Article 6 is about the right to life and governments doing all they can to ensure that children survive and develop to their full potential.  Article 24 is about governments providing good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment so that children can stay healthy.  The assembly focused on the positive things that are being done around the world to protect the environment, and children were asked to think about their hopes for their life and for the future of the Earth.  When they come back in April, they will be working on Earth Day activities led by Eco Committee and Eco Committee will also be encouraging positive environmental action with the Kilmorie community.

Helping the School Finances

We are deeply grateful for your continued support. As we navigate the school’s financial challenges, the strength of the Kilmorie community will make a real difference.

Here are some ways you can support the school:

- Friends of Kilmorie continues to raise vital funds. Please support their events or consider making a one-off or regular donation (eligible for Gift Aid).   Kilmorie Primary School - Friends of Kilmorie

- Wraparound care and school clubs provide important income. Using these services helps us maintain and develop them, and we welcome your ideas for increasing uptake.

- Please pay promptly for clubs, Wraparound, and voluntary trip contributions via Arbor.

- If you are on a low income or receive benefits, your child may be eligible for Pupil Premium funding. Please contact Jade if you believe this applies to you.

- Our school site is available for lettings in the evenings and at weekends. If you know of groups looking for space, we would be delighted to hear from them.

Help Us Grow Our Enrichment Clubs!

We’re keen to expand our after‑school enrichment clubs—and we know our school community is full of hidden talents and pots of passion! From September 2026, we’d love to offer more language clubs such as French, Portuguese, Chinese or Arabic, and we’re looking for enthusiastic parents, relatives or local community members who might enjoy leading one.

Some families have also requested a children’s dyslexia group. If you know a specialist who could run this, we would love to hear from them and can offer a space at school.

Do you have a hobby, passion, or special interest you’d love to share?
If you’re able to commit to 12 weekly sessions, we would be thrilled to have you run a club in any area—arts, sports, science, dungeons and dragons, board games, filmmaking, construction, robotics … anything that sparks joy and curiosity!

If this is something you’re interested in but feel unsure or lacking confidence, we are more than happy to help you plan what the 12 sessions could look like.

If you or someone you know could help bring these opportunities to life, please contact:

Thank you for helping us create enriching, joyful experiences for our children!

SEND coffee mornings

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting all children and families of SEND, we are pleased to reinstate our SEND Coffee Mornings, which will take place on the first Tuesday of each month. These friendly and informal sessions offer a valuable opportunity for parents to share advice, connect with others who have similar experiences, learn more about how home and school can work together, ask questions, suggest ideas, and hear about upcoming training opportunities. Please note that your child does not need to have a diagnosis for you to attend—you may be querying your child’s needs, seeking guidance, or simply wanting to learn more. The next sessions will be held on 14th April, 5th May, 2nd June, and 7th July, running from 09:15–10:00. On these days, please sign in at the main office—we look forward to welcoming you.

Garden Clipart #2969524 | Clipart Library

Last week the children in Year 2 were judged in a competition by the London Children's Flower Society; they have been growing daffodil bulbs since November.  They learnt how the bulbs grow, they drew beautiful pictures and found interesting facts about the plants.  The judge was very impressed by the enthusiasm and knowledge of the children and the quality of the plants and all three Year 2 classes were awarded a gold certificate.

Also last week we were given a delivery of bark from Amber Tree Care who always keep us well supplied.  The children in Year 3 helped to spread the bark in the Wild Garden and it was lovely seeing them enjoying the hard work.

The red tulips in the Physic Garden are in full bloom and the Japanese Crab Apple trees which form the entrance to the school building are just about to bloom, spring is such an exciting time.  We are planning an Open Garden event in late April where you will be able to spend some relaxing time in the gardens and find out more about some of the plants.
