image of headteacherDear Parents and Carers,

The Senior Leader assembly this week was around resilience. We looked at what resilience means and outlined goals for us to try and use, to help build our resilience such as; humour to see the funny side of why something didn’t work, positive thinking, asking for help, having hope – every day is a new day and a fresh start. We also looked at perspective - looking at things from different angles is important in helping us to build resilience. We looked at the life of Robbie Burns, why he is still celebrated and how resilience most likely will have supported him.

For Reception and Year 1’s assembly we read the book, 'Giraffes Can’t Dance' . We looked at how we all have a bit of Gerald in us, and how it is important to find your own way of doing something if at first we don’t succeed.

image of year 3 assembly on stone ageToday we had a fabulous assembly from Jo G’s class all about the Stone Age. I was blown away with the amount of learning they shared, the collaboration between the class members and the obvious enjoyment they had sharing it with their parents and carers. Well done everyone!

Ashleigh has had her baby! On Wednesday 18th Ashleigh gave birth to a little boy. Rainn was a healthy 8lbs 2oz (or for those of you who are metric: 3.685kg) and both are doing fine (albeit a little tired!). I have asked for some pictures but in the meantime, I am sure you will join me in sending huge congratulations and wishing her an enjoyable maternity leave.

Big Dig Gardening Weekend – 4th & 5th Feb - 1-3pm both days For all our green-fingered Parents / Carers we would love for you to join Eva and Olly,  planting, preening and getting our outside spaces ready for spring. On Saturday we will focus on preparing for planting the 2 new Japanese Crab Apple trees, which are replacing those lost to disease. On Sunday, we will start to plant the new Reception garden and prepare for some new hedging. On both days, there will be other jobs for all ages, a gardening day is a great way to get to know our different garden areas and to give your children lovely memories. There will be toilets available and biscuits, please bring your own drinks and tools if you can (please label). The children are the responsibility of their Parent / Carer at all times.

I am pleased to let you know that our 'Reading Buddies' programme is back up and running. Within the programme, an older child is paired with a younger child, and they take turns reading to one another. Different year groups have been matched and teachers have carefully paired the children in their respective classes. Reading Buddy sessions will take place weekly. We are also in the process of matching groups of children across year 6, to read with the children in nursery. For more information on the benefits of running a 'Reading Buddy' programme, please visit our website.  Happy reading everyone!

At Kilmorie, we will be celebrating World Book Day on Friday 10th March.

Fence Art: A while ago I wrote outlining that I wished to create some fence art that gave the school an element of privacy but also could be a way to showcase what we are all about. Amanda, mum to Annabelle in year 1 has offered her expertise to support us to put the vision into reality. We have met and outlined our plans and hope to be starting the project in the summer term.

The plan is that each year group will have one of the Kilmorie qualities to represent in art form and will also have an opportunity to support with the installation.

An enormous thank you to the Friends of Kilmorie who has informed me that they have received a £1000 donation from Tokyo Marine Kiln who employs one of our parents.  We are planning on investing in new outside play equipment that will be available to all Kilmorie children. This donation will be used within this project and once we have a full breakdown would like to allocate a piece that the donation has enabled us to purchase.

Absence due to illness: Whilst we are aware that at this time of year there are many illnesses going round, it is really important that you inform the school. Don't forget the phone line has an option to report your child's absence which can of course be done at any time e.g.  if your child is sick in the night – you can leave the voicemail at anytime.

Last week, I highlighted the calendar subscription feature on our website – I hope this is proving useful to you all.

Wishing everyone a lovely weekend and I look forward to waving off the year 4 PGL school journey on Monday.

Kind regards

Julie

Friends of Kilmorie (FOK) News

Donation News – A Year 2 parent has successfully secured a £1000 donation to FOK from her company’s charitable giving fund. Thank you to the parent for making the application, as well as to Tokyo Marine Kiln for their generosity. As a registered charity, FOK is able to benefit from corporate charitable foundations, payroll giving and matched funding schemes, so please keep FOK in mind if your employer offers such programmes.

FOK Quiz Night – FOK’s popular quiz night will be taking place on Friday 21st April – please save the date! We’re delighted to welcome back Tina and Amanda as hosts, plus Rinku and her Raastawala team, who will be serving up incredible Kolkata Kati rolls and fries. More details and information on how to buy tickets will follow soon.

AmazonSmile Closure – Unfortunately, Amazon will be winding down AmazonSmile by 20 February 2023. Thank you to everyone who has supported FOK via AmazonSmile – together you’ve raised close to £900 for the school while you’ve shopped. We’re exploring similar schemes, but in the meantime, we’d love more Parents/Carers to support FOK on easyfundraising, the UK’s biggest charity shopping site.  To register, click here.
